We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix and appreciate your feedback. In the spring it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in the northern states. Cool night-time temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. For this grass seed mix, soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees for germination. This generally requires daytime temperatures consistently in the 65+ degrees range. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Terrible results with this grass seed

Put the seed down, watered every day and have only small spots of grass growing. this is terrible seed. I am going to ask for a refund. so disappointing after all the work to prepare areas, not to mention my water bill.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. You should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions, but will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. We recommend mowing the grass short and rake or de-thatch the area to remove dead grass and loosen exposed soil prior to applying. This Grass Seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80-degree F range. Weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I bought this grass and seeded it today. When do you think it will start to show growth. What's the best way to keep my dogs off it? If they get on it will it ruin it?

We apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced when using the product. This particular product usually has a lot of success stories from users, but it is helpful when we get reviews like yours to help us produce quality product. Here are a few tips to consider when growing in the future. For Cool Season grasses like Bluegrass, Ryegrass, and different types of Fescues soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees (+12.7 Celsius) for grass seed to germinate and can take between 4 -21 days to see germination. Warm season grasses like Bermudagrass, Centipede and Zoysia, which germinates in early summer, requires soil temperatures between 75 - 90 degrees (24 - 32 Celsius) and can take between 5-28 days to see visible germination. Watering also plays a defining factor in germination. We recommend watering 1-2 times a day until germination is visible and then watering 1- 1 ½” per week as needed. Both excessive watering and not enough watering can slow down or even stop germination of the product. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5 and one of our representatives would be glad to assist you. We hope this issue has not caused you to lose faith in our product, as we use reviews like yours to maintain and improve the quality product that you and other consumers have come to know and love.
