The instructions recommend 48 hours to fully expand, but it didn't really take more than a few hours. The foam is quite firm but has just enough give to feel like you're gently melting into when you lay down. It also seems to bounce right back within a couple seconds after I get up. I haven't noticed anything remarkable in regards to breathability, but it did seem to absorb less body heat than my current mattress.
