Shaves great with an annoyance

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Gives a great shave. Battery life is great. There is an ergonomic problem. The size and location of the on/off switch makes it easy to inadvertently turn off the shaver while shaving,

Falls short of what I wanted….

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was expecting more! I have used a blade razor for years. Was looking for something faster and as good as my razor. This unit falls a lot short of that. Not even a close shave!

Hi, Thanks for your review regarding our Philips 6540 Shaver. We are sorry to hear that you have not been satisfied with your first shaves and hope we can improve your experience! If you are a new user of a Philips Shaver, your skin will need to adapt to the new electric razor. To enjoy the closest and most comfortable shave from your new Philips Norelco Men’s Shaver, the shaver should be used exclusively for 3 weeks. This allows your hair and skin enough time to adapt to the Philips Norelco Shaving System. If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch via social media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook and Twitter. Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website www.philips.com/support. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further. Hope to speak to you soon! Kind regards, Philips Consumer Care

I like it, but am disappointed with the closeness.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used Norelco shavers all my shaving life, roughly 60 years, but I am disappointed with the closeness of my new shaver.

Blade not sharp

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have not sharp blade. And I call support to ask for replacement. They sent old new stock item, that is opened plus ties cut. I'm not sure if it was new, display, or used.

Just Ok

I bought this recently and I already have a Norelco 3500 and wanted to compare the two. But, comparing the 3500 to the 6500 and after using the 6500 a few times, I find that I actually prefer the 3500. The 6500 is supposed to have a smoother and more comfortable shave but I found that on a dry shave, the 3500 is actually more comfortable. The shaving heads on the 6500 are spread a little farther apart than on the 3500. I prefer the closer heads on the 3500. On the 3500, the cutting heads actually have a spring action as well as moving to the contours of your face. The heads on the 6500 do not spring in. They only move around to the contour of your face. I suppose that isn't a major factor but I think that the spring action on the 3500 contributes to the comfort of the overall shave. Using a preshave lotion, the two shavers feel about the same but on a dry shave, the 6500 seems to drag on the skin a little more than on the 3500, which makes it more uncomfortable. I generally don't use a shaving gel when using an electric shaver so I didn't compare the two that way. I examined the actual cutters on both shavers. The 3500 has just single cutting blades whereas the 6500 has two pieces of metal together. The bottom piece is spring loaded and I believe it acts to grab the hair and pull on it to lift it slightly so the second part can cut it. I found, however, that when you clean the cutters thoroughly, it takes more time because you have to clean between the two pieces of metal to make sure you get all the hair out. The 6500 also has a feature where, when you press the button, it speeds the motor up a bit. That is used if you happen to have thicker than normal facial hair. For me, that isn't an issue and I got the same shave whether or not I used that feature. I suppose it has its purpose, though. One annoying thing I found is you have to hold the 6500 shaver a certain way, otherwise your thumb keeps hitting the on/off button. I don't have that issue with the 3500. All in all, I guess I'll continue to use the 3500 and return the 6500 as I really don't find it a "better" shaver for my purposes over my 3500. The replacement cutters for the 3500 are also cheaper than the ones for the 6500.

Disappointed

So I have had this for over 6 months and am very disapointed. This is my 3rd Norelco, the first one was over 10 years old when I replaced it (sat in a drawer for an additional 3yrs and still worked). The 3000 went for 6yrs, until I charged it one day and it would only turn on for a second and turn off. So I went with the 6500 at Sam's, I was happy it came with a second set of blades, they normally last me about 1.5yrs before performance drops. Nothing that stands out on this one, as others have said its easy to accidentally turn it off. The blades did not last more than a few months (and its not because they are dirty). I have a few thicker hairs that other razers require a few passes to catch it, this will never cut them and misses alot more, I need to go over an area 10 to 15 times or more to cut a few stragglers so it is never a quick shave or smooth. The battery charge on the old ones would last for 6 months, this one is monthly. You cannot flick the razor to remove the excess waster from cleaning because it will fly off (never a problem with the old ones). I had my old 3000 sitting in the basement to send it for recycling, I turned it on and it stayed on, in 1 minute I had a better shave with 1yr old blades that this one gave me in 5 minutes with newer blades. The plastic ring around the blades is much wider making it difficult to get under the nose. I hope my old one keeps working because thus one is going in the drawer, I should have returned it in the beginning but I thought it would get better, I can't recommend it.

Close Shave

My husband says it's the closest shave from an electric razor that he has ever had! He loves it.
