However, certain types of materials and fabric finishes will stain if they come into direct contact with a colored detergent. Also, soil on fabrics can sometimes attract and hold the dyes in colored laundry products. Since the dyes used in our detergents are water soluble, any spots that are the result of direct contact with fabric can be removed by rewashing in the hottest water safe for the material. Stubborn stains may need more than one rewashing to completely remove. If rewashing doesn't remove the stains, it's likely they were caused by something other than your detergent. The most frequent cause of unremovable laundry stains is dye transfer. Meanwhile, here's a test you can perform to assure you the detergent didn't cause the damage you reported. Select a hidden, undamaged area (inside pocket, waistband, seam, etc.) and mark the test site with a safety pin. Next, apply the detergent directly to the fabric according to the directions below. Tide Powder Laundry Detergent: 1. Make a paste using two tablespoons of detergent and one tablespoon of warm water. 2. Apply some paste to the selected test site and allow it to remain for 20 minutes. 3. Rinse the test site under warm running water. Don't scrub the fabric. 4. Allow the fabric to dry; then check to see if the original problem was duplicated. Tide Liquid Laundry Detergent: 1.
