Good swingset - read review for assembly tips!

Fairly easy to assemble but time consuming. Here are a few tips to make things easier. 1. Delivery comes in 6 pieces - 4 long/heavy boxes, one large square box (tube slide) and the wavy slide (in plastic bag). Sort all the wood first! I sorted by part numbers/letter (ie., G38, F45 etc). The numbers are stamped in black ink before the wood stain is applied and are hard to read. Using white chalk to mark the number on each piece (of dark stained wood - the lighter wood was MUCH easier to read part numbers) was time consuming initially but made things go much faster once we started assembling. 2. Read the warranty rules! According to the warranty, the wood needs to be sealed or the warranty is invalid. Of course, I didn't notice this until after the swingset was assembled, which means sealing it will be a mjor PITA (the roof is 12 feet high!). It would have been much easier to seal each piece as it was inventoried. 3. When assembling the roof support brackets (v-shaped), instructions call for drilling a pilot hole on only one side to avoid splitting. I did this but the other side started to split. After repairing the split (glue, clamp, let dry), I drilled the pilot hole through both pieces (after fitting them together with clamps) - no problem with splitting. 4. MAKE SURE YOUR SITE IS LEVEL! This is especially important with the swing arm support assembly! My husband didn't notice that neither corner of the support assembly touched the ground (off by 1-2 inches) which causes A LOT of movement and creaking when swings are in use. It also renders the ground augers useless. 5. Have a system for keeping track of hardware - there is a LOT of it! 6. The system we used for assembly made things go smoothly: After sorting and labeling wood pieces, I grouped the pieces needed for each step and put all the hardware in ziplock bags labeled with part numbers. (To avoid confusion, similar parts were put in separate bags). Bags were reused when emptied but we still used 25+ baggies. A sharpie works great for labeling the bags - you can reuse for the same part numbers and/or cross out old numbers. We used two 6 foot folding tables - one for sorting hardware etc and the other for putting wood/hardware in groups for each step. You'll receive two instruction manuals - one in english, the other in french/spanish. My husband used the english version for assembly while I used the french version to sort parts for each step. The part numbers are the same in both languages. I also highly recommend using the Bilt app. It shows step by step instructions and you can move the pictures around for better viewing. It's great!! Sorting and chalk-labeling the wood took me several hours but made a HUGE difference when it came time to assemble the swing. Most of the instructions are pretty easy to understand and there is a parts list at the top of each page for that step. Once we got started on the actual assembly, it took my husband and I two 8-hour days to build the swingset and neither of us is young (55) or experienced. It helps to have two cordless drills so one can build the stairs, climbing wall, and porch roof while the other works on the main unit. Of all the wooden pieces we received, only one had minor damage (small crack) but since it didn't effect appearance or integrity we used it. CHECK the tube slide pieces before you begin! The flanges on four of ours were cracked (box was probably dropped during shipping) and had to be replaced but customer service was AWESOME. I used the chat function on Backyard Discovery's website and the parts were shipped out same day at no charge. All in all, it was a fun project and our grandsons LOVE their new swing! ****Four stars only because the numbers on the dark stained wood are very hard to see and can be confusing because of the font used.

Endless Fun!!!

Looking for a playset for the kids look no further than this one. This playset has everything the tube slide, wavy slide, and look out tower. Our kids will go out and have fun on this for hours. Sturdy design and really good directions for assembly. With myself and two others we had this up in 11 hours. My suggestion have one person do the individual builds like the rock climbing wall, ladder, slides, swing bar, etc. while the other two people work on the main tower. Then once you get to the other portions all you have to do is connect. We had a great experience with Backyard Discovery, the playset was delivered on time and all the pieces were accounted for. I wouldn’t suggest going anywhere else. I feel very safe with my kids on this set and can’t wait for the memories and hours of fun to be had.

Perfect Size

We bought this for our son and he loves it. Well built, easy to put together. I downloaded the app for the installation instructions and it took us about 16 hours total (2 people with construction experience). My only negative was the delivery. It was delayed and rescheduled.

The most amazing backyard addition!

I could not have anticipated the amount of fun and joy this set brought our family! First off, I decided putting it together would be FUN! And fulfilling! And guess what…. I was RIGHT! The family did not believe me at first, but truly, the directions were super easy to follow, and my husband, daughter, and small son put it together all by ourselves! It is imperative that you organize all the pieces. I cannot stress that enough. We took the morning to organize, and started building in the afternoon. All-in-all, I’d say it took two weekends to get it fully completed. We took our time. There is definitely a pride factor, in doing it yourself. If you have some patience, time, and energy, I highly recommend it. As for the play set itself… it’s phenomenal. We all absolutely love it. My husband is a big, muscle guy and it supports him, no problem. The kids have found countless hours of fun playing. I have too :). I’m so glad that after extensive research, we settled upon this play set.

Perfect COVID distraction

I got this for my twin grandsons. The price was right and it had tons of features to keep the boys out of moms hair fir a bit and burn some of that energy! My husband and a friend put it together in about three days. The only problem was in replacing the slide that arrived damaged. It did arrive Eventually so I cant complain really.

Awesome Playset - Best Birthday ever!

I bought the Backyard Discovery Skyfort III Swing Set with tube slide for my Grandson’s 4th birthday! It has every thing he wanted in a playset. To note, I’m his 63 year-old Grandmother and assembled most of this play set myself !! It was labor-intensive, with a lot of different pieces and parts. But the instructions were easy to follow, with the part numbers and dimensions listed, and all the wood pieces clearly marked. I agree that it would have helped to have front/back, or up/down marked on the boards to avoid having to take a few things apart and turning it around. (But that’s my bad – not the manufacturer’s fault.) It definitely helped that I sorted and organized the different components before starting. I.e.; Putting all the hardware in labeled baggies (using the last 3 digits of the part number) and sorting the wood into groups alphabetically. All the M’s in this pile, H’s in this pile, etc. Less time spent searching for a particular board or bolt later on. It probably took me a little longer because I was teaching the soon-to-be-4-year-old how to use the basic tools we needed to put this together and pausing to share the excitement of how much he enjoyed “helping” me every step of the way! Sadly, my Grandson lost both of his Grandfathers, his Great Grandfather, and Uncle, just a few months before he was born. So even though he is barely 4 years old - It was vitally important to me to try and teach him how the tools work, show him the difference between screws, bolts, nuts, and washers, and help him to experience the joy and satisfaction of seeing the end result of all that effort and hard work!! (Doing my best to teach him all the things my Dad taught me, and wishing the older male role models, he never got to meet, were here to teach him this stuff, instead of Grandma.) This amazing playset was worth every penny I spent on it and every minute of time spent putting it together. He absolutely Loves the Backyard Discovery Skyfort III Swing set, especially the tube slide, and enthusiastically tells me, “Thank You Grandma!!” everyday!! I will cherish the memories this playset has given us, and the opportunity to help a little boy in the process.

Excellent playset!

I bought this prior to the quarantine for my kids and it has been an awesome purchase. Ended up assembling myself over the span of a week (not recommended, you really need an extra hand for holding/lifting, etc), and had to improvise in some areas where the screws just spun, wood was slightly warped, etc. The wavy slide is a bear to put together because you have to bend the plastic sheet into the side brace thst creates the bumps, which took me FOREVER (may be easier with 2 people, but still difficult). Also you have to coat this set with a waterproof sealer every year or risk voiding your warranty. Do this on the assembled pieces BEFORE you assemble the entire structure, especially the roof (it'll be 12 ft in the air and super difficult to do after). I used Thompson's Water Seal clear (no stain). It's oil based. The instructions also mention to organize all of your wood by alphanumeric (M27, H5, etc) but for each section that you build, the wood can be in anyone of 4 large boxes, so unless you plan to knock it out in 2 days, I don't recommend taking all the wood out and sorting as putting them back in the boxes is almost impossible. Each box has a list of which pieces are in each box, so just have the boxes laying side by side, and use the lists when you need to find a piece of wood. Makes it 100% easier. Also be sure to keep your fasteners in their respective bags. There are a ton and you will mix them up. Only slight complaint is there were several fasteners brand new in a package that were not used for this project at all. Made me search through the manual like 35 times to be sure I didn't miss them. Make sure you're putting this on a flat surface. I had to cut the rock wall legs a little shorter to fit my yard but you may have to grade some areas like I did for them to be safe and level. Don't let any of what I'm saying deter you, I'm just putting out there all that I went through in the process. This is a really good set and my 3 year old and 18 month old love it. They're able to climb up the ladder easily and safely, although just be sure to watch them near the rock wall entrance.

Low quality wood, not all pieces line up

Built 90% alone, needed help on other parts. One of the main wood came cracked, other smaller ones also cracked. Needed to order the parts which I didn’t end up using since it takes 2 weeks for it to arrive. Drilled new holes to make parts fit (not my mistake, holes just do not line up). I needed to anchor some parts like the walls from the bottom, but after I drilled, the T-nut wouldn’t fit because of the frame that was installed prior (happened on 2 areas). Was installing the swing and the wooden panel that it screws on to was in an awkward position and cracked one of the panels. Overall OK, but not worth $2000 after shipping. I wouldn’t pay over $1000 for this. Kids love it tho.

Overall great value!!

Great swing set! My kids: boys 8 and 9 and girl age 2 all enjoy it equally. You can’t beat the cost for what you get! That said, the wood is a little splintery in some places and it doesn’t feel as strong as I would like. Granted, my sons are huge for their age and really tough on it (American ninja warrior type stunts, etc.). I would recommend as I think my daughter will get years of use out if it as long as my sons don’t destroy it in the meantime.
