This Beautyrest Silver BRS900-C Medium Pillow Top allows my shoulders, hips and butt to sink into the comfort layer, while at the same time supporting my lower back. Normally I sleep on my back or stomach, however with this mattress sleeping on my side is now an option; I was delightfully surprised upon waking on my right side that my shoulder did not go numb, plus my spine was free of pain! It fits a standard queen bed frame perfectly. You don't have to use a box spring. Although, I am using a box spring. Because I love the extra height. The website recommended using a very thin pad. Similar to a yoga mat to protect the mattress. I highly recommend this mattress for a good nightsvrest
