The condensation on the interior back wall is a normal condition for a manual defrost refrigerator.The evaporator coils for the refrigerator are located immediately behind the back wall of the refrigerator and as such they are the coldest surface in the refrigerator compartment.Warm humid air enters the unit whenever the door is opened and condenses on the cold surface of the back wall. As well, moisture escapes from fruit and vegetables and food items that are not wrapped securely.The moisture condenses on the cold surface of the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment. (Think of a cold glass of water on a warm Summer day).When the refrigeration system is operating, the moisture may freeze on the very cold surface of the rear of the refrigeration compartment.The frost/ice will thaw when the refrigeration system is not operating as the temperature rises, and the water will run down the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment where it is channeled into a drain tube that routes it to a drip tray mounted on top of the compressor. (The heat generated by the refrigeration system compressor aids in evaporation of the water in the drip tray).
