I love it

My husband bought me the garmin forerunner 55 for my birthday. I’ve only ever used fitbit watches prior. I’ve seen people talk about garmin watched (mostly the 245 watch) online and mentioned it to my husband. Unfortunately I don’t have the money for a watch like that so my husband surprised me with the 55. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot to be honest. Boy was I surprised with the amount of info garmin provided with the watch and app! I’m very happy with the watch and love the information it provides. Photo is the last race I did with the garmin watch.

I love this watch

Although shipping took a long time, it was worth the wait. The battery on this bad boy lasts forever compared to the apple watch I have been using for a few years. I like having the body battery and other sleep metrics, too. The suggested workouts are fun, and I'm overall happy with this purchase. I look forward to testing its GPS capability more thoroughly by doing a midnight half marathon at night next month!

Nerdy fun!

Many reviews love or hate the Forerunner 55 for its complexity. They're right. I originally bought it to simply display my heart rate in large, readable numbers while exercising. Well, it's not intuitive to make that happen. Had to dive into manual, YouTubes and review sites to get it just like I wanted. It was frustrating. HOWEVER, getting into the nerdier level of what it can do transformed me into a personal health and exercise data connoisseur. I'm having blast tracking all kinds of interesting (to me) measures of health and performance. SO, the punchline is the watch has a LOT of interesting capabilities but you have to work through 5 buttons on the watch and 2 different phone apps to take advantage of it all and you do have to dig through multi-step instructions to make them work. If you love data and goal setting, you'll like it. If you like simplicity, you won't.

Garmin Forerunner 55

I use it for mountain biking and hiking. It gives distance traveled, elevation, pace, splits, heart rate, respiration, calories burned. Files transfer easily to Strava and other apps. The battery lasts several days even when being used to track multiple hours of backpacking and recharges quickly. Not completely intuitive and the supplied operator's manual is pretty basic and not much use. The on-line version is much more helpful. It's somewhat running-centric but also works for biking and boating. The steps-you-should-do-in-a-day function seems a bit random and doesn't account for the effort put forth in other sports. Overall, however, I've been very happy with it.

Disappointed

I bought tte Forerunner35 a few years ago and it worked great. I upgraded to the 55 less than a year ago. In less than 6 months the watch stopped connecting to my phone/computer. After 2 sessions of 2 1/2 hrs on chat support it was finally determined that the watch was not fixable and a replacement would be sent. I received the replacement of a refurbished watch for a watch that was not even a year old. The refurbished watch’s battery lasts for only 24 hrs. My old watch battery would last for 1-2 weeks depending on how much GPS I used. It’s useless. Now I’ll need to go through the whole process over again to get another replacement. If the next replacement has issues as well I’m never choosing Garmin again. It’s not worth the hours of headache. Sorry Garmin, I want to like you but you are making it very hard!

Forerunner 55 Runner's Watch

I've purchased and received my new Garmin Forerunner 55 Runner's Watch about three or so weeks ago. I've used it in training runs several times since then. On the most part I like the watch. But, I just wish the fonts on various settings could be adjusted to be larger to read. The font size as on the default setting are a bit too small, and are particularly difficult to see at twilight, and/or after darkness sets in for the day. I had a Garmin Forerunner 15 for a number of years prior to the non-replacable battery dying out permanently. I loved the Garmin 15. And, I am still getting used to all of the additional bells and whistles on my new Garmin Forerunner 55. My only complaint at this point is that the font size on the words on the various settings need to somehow have a way to adjust to be larger. However, all-in-all, I am getting more accustomed to the watch each time I use it, and I'm glad I've purchased it. Garmin has some great products.

Love the data it gathers - battery issues tho

I bought this product 2 years ago. Over the 2 years, I have loved the features, I love the GPS tracking, and the ability to create workouts, the half marathon plans it provides. I did buy this product for the battery life, as I wanted to eventually run a full marathon. Now that I am finally beginning my first full marathon training, I have found my watch is having difficulty connecting to my phone during the run, and the battery is not as good, so it is struggling to not die during a 6+ mile run. It is disappointing. Overall, this watch has been fantastic these past 2 years and has tracked well my first 3 half-marathons and multiple other runs.

Hope this one lasts longer than 22 months!

My Forefunner 45 lasted only 22 months and I was offered a 20% discount for the Forerunner 55. Before the 45 I had the 35 and that one lasted over 5 years which I was pleased with. I wish Garmin would have offered a greater discount for the 55. Anyway, my only complaint is that my iPhone will only stay connected to the 55 when I have the Connect App open in the background. I never had this problem with the previous Garmin watches I've owned.

I love this watch. The features it has are amazing. Perfect for running-workouts, daily runs, etc.. The battery life is amazing. I had an Apple Watch previously and there is a vast difference. My only complaint is that messages or phone calls are not answerable on the watch. I am so happy I got 2 as well because I an alternate them and distribute the wear.

So far so good

Very pleased so far. About a dozen runs with this watch. Everything I expected. Very accurate pace calculator and good interface for the phone. Watch is very lightweight and a pleasure to wear. Sometimes a little hard to see without glasses on. I would buy it again.
