Forerunner 55: A Good Basic Watch for Runners

I purchased my Forerunner 55 about a month ago and generally am pleased with its features. I bought it to replace a Forerunner 25, which also a basic watch for runners but over about the five or so years I owned it no longer functioned properly. I considered Garmin's entire suite of watches for runners but found most were much too expensive for what I needed, i.e., a stop watch with GPS to track my distance and time, as well as other basic watch functions such as time and date. The Forerunner 55 was by far the most reasonably priced watch that met my needs. The watch does everything my previous watch did, but of course with technology changes over the last several years, it does it much better. In addition to distance tracking, which appears more accurate, it provides data on my heart rate, respiration, and several other wellness related functions. I have been a runner more than sixty years, and the watch provides everything I want in that regard. My disappointment is in some of the ancillary features. I am also an avid golfer, and the watch has a golf function, but it is practically useless. A friend of mine, who owns an older Garmin watch which was less expensive, has much more extensive golf features including calculating distances to the pin for nearby courses utilizing the GPS built into the watch. I can load local golf courses but the watch doesn't utilize the GPS to calculate pin distances. I suspect the capability could have been enabled in the Forerunner 55 at no additional cost but assume that Garmin chose not to provide it as an incentive to purchase a more expensive Garmin watch. In summary to me the Forerunner 55 is a good watch for runners that is affordably priced but is disappointing in that Garmin did not enable some of the potential features aside from running.

Great Watch

I am not typically wear a watch. However, recently, I have been trying to create a healthy lifestyle for myself. And when looking for a watch that tracked all of the vital elements I was looking for in a fitness watch. I found the Garmin. It gives me all the things that I need to keep tabs on during my workout and so much more. I highly recommend this watch to anyone looking to add value to their health plan.

Forerunner 40 comparison to Forerunner 55

I was used to the features I used on the Forerunner 40. The only improvement I've noticed on the Forerunner 55 is the ease at resetting the stop watch back to zero. But the size of the splits are so small I am unable to to read them. I miss the ability to review the stats of a run I saved on my watch without having to download it into the Connect Ap. The GPS works great. Thanks.

QUALITY

I purchased this watch to track my exercises and steps. The watch is very intuitive, easy to use and the dial dial is easy to read. The size of the watch is just right for me. Not to small and not to big. The quality of the materials and the engineering of this watch are the absolute best. I highly recommend getting this watch.

Comfortable and light weight

I love this watch. I was really excited about all the features. I really like being able to look down and see my pace in real time. The ability to customize the screens you look at while running is huge. Being able to put what statistics that are important you is awesome. Over all happy with my purchase.

2nd Forerunner 55

This is my second watch due to extreme abuse to the first one. My first watch held up I think a very fair amount of time in a rough environment. I enjoy the sleep and stress feature the most. I use this mainly to track walking and biking. I would recommend this to someone who likes to wear a regular watch and interested in upgrading to a smart watch. Very simple. This has just enough technology to keep me happy while not being too much.

Great battery but screen could improve

I bought this 2 weeks ago and so far charged the battery one. One unusual thing was that after having the battery charged to 100%, the first day it showed I had 97% before I turned it off. The next morning, the battery was showing 87%.thats a 10% drop in a day when it was off. I'll see what happens in the next charge cycle. The only other minor grope is that the screen has very large bezels. I was hoping that the 55 would improve on this over the 45,but that's fine and does as is intended.

Much better then FitBit

My friend and her mother are super fit. Her mother is a marathon runner; my friend recently ran her first marathon. Both use Garmin for runners. I leaned into also wanting one after being a Fitbit fan for years. Garmin is so much better of a sports watch, especially for runners. The watch is specially designed to train you to run, which I love. FITBIT wouldn’t do that.

Interesting Features!

I use this smartwatch while swimming. Its quality and features are fantastic and definitely worth the price. I also use Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Once it is dead, I plan to buy another Garmin which would be more expensive and have even better quality for everyday use.

Frustrating

It is probably because I am too old but found that trying to understand its functions impossible. The instruction book was no help. I had to ask other people to help me, and I now can finally use it at its most basic function. I have the app on my phone but have not as yet tried to tackle that. It seems to function well but honestly; I wished i went with something simpler for a fitness watch. I am 67 years old, and I am training to run 5k races for the first time in my life. My trainer suggested your watch and i went with her advice. I wished i didn't, though maybe all fitness watched are this complicated.
