Annoying In Many Ways

Having had a couple of good Garmin watches in the past I decided to stick with the brand when my Forerunner 30 died. The 55 had good reviews so ordered one but was immediately annoyed to see a completely new power lead, this means throwing out two old Garmin charging cables, more plastic waste in the environment, thanks for that Garmin. Next annoyance is the display. Call me old fashioned but I just like a 24 hour clock with four digits the same size. It is impossible to get this. The choice is between unpleasant looking digital displays or utterly hideous attempts to make it look like an old fashioned watch. Ok, so does it at least work for running? Yeah, I guess but again why mess with the display? Just give me time, distance and pace please, but oh no, instead I have an arbitrary meaningless time counting down filling most of the screen. Didn't work this out until the second run when I realised it was suggesting I run 9.2 miles in 38 minutes. I'm an intermediate runner but even in my prime I couldn't run that distance in an hour! Maybe once I have downloaded the full manual I will be able to iron out some of these features but it's a pain that I have to. Just cannot work out why Garmin would mess about with all these standard features in such an irritating way. Might just do away with their watches in the future and just use my phone.

Boy did I make a mistake with this purchase

I purchased a Forerunner 55. I am also extremely technically challenged. But I thought there had to be some "Logic" in operating this watch. But Logic totally alluded me. You don't just press one button, Top Right button and start going, Oh no that would be too east. Then you press the bottom bottom left, scroll, hit left middle and or top......It's just insane. Then on more than one occasion I re-charge the battery an it say 100% then the following morning when I wake up the battery is down to about 20%. I did not activities. ****BUT*** I must comment to support Dept. They are for the most part wonderful and patient people. But again I repeat I am not a tech person and this logic to use the watch correctly totally alludes me. Plus I feel guilty .keep calling the support dept as STILL not getting credit for my activities that I have done I am sure it's a GREAT WATCH ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

First Smartwatch

I received the garmin forerunner 55 for my birthday a few days ago, so far it's been great! The battery lasts a long time, I'm able to get my notifications on the watch and see lots of data about my health. The only thing that sucks is I dont see a wheelchair option. I'm paralyzed and run with my chair, which burns more calories than regular running and I dont have that as an option on here, maybe they will add it eventually? The under armor app has it so cant be too hard but hey, I realize I'm a small market so I get it! Overall though, been a good birthday present!

Great entry level

Does everything you need for basic running and some other aerobic exercises. Pros: Great battery life, lots of good information, app is relatively easy to use, GPS location is accurate, auto generates lots of data like calories burned, HR, steps etc. Cons: Running pace calculations lag a lot and are off by about 10%. HR also seems to read low outside of vigorous activity and would benefit from a different monitor than optical. Sleep monitoring is inaccurate and waking times need constant adjustment. The app also doesn't seem to transfer custom workouts to the watch even after syncing.

Such an upgrade

Prior to purchasing my garmin, I used an Apple Watch to track my runs as I trained for a marathon. I didn't know what I was missing. This watch provides me with much more detailed information about my runs and my body than I've ever had before. Stress levels, body battery and GPS mapping my runs are some of my favorite features. The Garmin Connect app seamlessly connects with Strava to also track run information there. This watch is extremely lightweight and the battery lasts 5-7 days without a charge.

REALLY DISAPPOINTED!!

Ι bought the watch from an e-shop a few days ago. I followed the instructions to set it up and it seemed to be fine. When I used it for running, I noticed huge discrepancies in both the mileage and pace it recorded. I used it again at the same time as an exact same watch of an acquaintance of mine which was tested to work correctly and the readings had deviations of approximately five minutes per km (!!). I really don't understand what I have to do to fix this and I am really disappointed because I spend a lot of money and I don't have a watch whitch could help me to to complete my preparation for the Athens marathon.

Beginner gps watch

Great customisable display. For a beginner runner this is a fantastic watch. Not too expensive. Has a few bells and whistles that make it a nice add on. This watch is reliable and gets the job done. For the price, you can't go wrong with this watch. One nice feature is that you can create your own workouts in the app and send them to the watch.

Forerunner 55 beats everything else

I'm recently getting into running and previously had the Apple Watch from 2018. The Garmin tech is pretty amazing for me as a noob in the running world. Body battery technology has overhauled how i plan my days and it's extremely accurate. I have no idea how this watch would work for all marathon runner, but this specific model is killer for people that are pretty active in every way in life. The GPS is great for tracking outdoor runs and for treadmill runs, you can edit the distance at the end of the run to calibrate it with the treadmill for accuracy. It charges remarkably fast and the battery life is outstanding. It's comfortable to sleep in too which means that you can track your sleep habits and phases which has allowed me to change my routines and get better sleep over time. Overall, there's nothing i would change about this watch and I'm a pretty big fan of it.

Constant need for pairing

I bought a Forerunner 55 to replace a 35 that I had for seven years. My 35 stopped reading my heart rate, measured distance incorrectly and the light quit. It had served me well so I bought what I thought would be it's replacement. The 55 I received would not stay paired with the Garmin app. I needed to pair every time I used the app to sync. It also took minutes to acquire the starting location. I called support and got a replacement. The replacement does the same thing. My 35 would go months without needing to be paired. It would also acquire the starting location in seconds not minutes. The 55 is unnecessarily complicated and the instructions for pairing are wrong. Also when pairing the app has me register the watch again.

Great multifaceted product.

This replaces my older Forerunner 220, which I’ve had several years. This model allows me to check different data, depending on what activity I”m doing and what I prefer to know during and/or after the activity. As an older fitness buff I don’t require some of the features on this 55, but its handy to have them available should my workout or fitness level change. Great product; not over the top and just right for my needs.
