New features

I received a replacement for the Forerunner 55 I purchased in Sept 2022. I wasn’t looking for a replacement I just wanted new glass. Even with a screen saver the edges had been badly damaged. Garmin offered to replace it free of charge. The replacement is styled a bit differently than the one I returned and has built in edge protection. I appreciate that! Thank you for such great customer service!

Overall Excellent

I have been using this for almost 3 weeks. I enjoy almost every aspect of the watch. I really like the sleep tracking feature. It's so cool to know how REM or deep sleeve or light sweep or how many times I woke up. I think everything's pretty accurate, The more I use it the better it becomes.

No thanks.

The Forerunner 55 is as basic as is gets. You have to go through tons of watch faces via the app, with few free available, to find one to see anything in addition to the time. To get to any of the additional benefits of having a smartwatch, you have to press 1 of 5 buttons on the side of the watch several times to scroll a menu, select, and exit, etc. Not only it this taxing, for anyone with arthritis, tactile, or motor function issues, is this majorly painful, it’s also extremely uncomfortable to sleep with it on. Thus, I just wear it during the day, look at whatever few stats are constantly on the face, and don’t take advantage of any other feature. It’s a shame, because Garmin has some great programs and options available, however, there are so few ADA devices at an affordable price point.

Booklet print is tooooooi small!

I have not discovered all the features as I need the Hubble telescope to read the instructions booklet. So far I figured out how to time my runs. I will have to watch a YouTube video at some point to learn more. How hard is it to have bigger print! Don’t worry! You’re not the only people who do this! I couldn’t read the booklet even wearing reading glasses! Ugh!

I want to love it but...

I realize that I need to take responsibility but it's hard to learn, not intuitive for me after years wearing the Apple iWatch. I decided to leave Apple when the face fell off my second iWatch but when it worked, I liked the features. My new Garmin in not comfortable for me on my wrist and none of the 50+ button clicks resulted in the simple takes I was attempting to do (turn the screen bright so I could see the face, start a run, turn the dial from one activity to the next from the screen with the activities) so I will need to go online and get to know my Garmin better. If I do and like it I will update my review!

Technology has not advanced

This Forerunner 55 replaced my Forerunner 220 because I don't need a lot of bells and whistles and the 220's battery has been dying for a few years. We all know that most retail GPS watches doesn't measure distance accurately and the 55 is no different. It measures a 3 mile course as 3.07 miles on a course that was wheel-measured in the middle of the course, not the tangents. Even the 220 consistently measured the same 3 mile course at 3.02, +/- .01. I was hoping that wrist-measured HR technology had gotten better in the past 5 years. Nope. I went back to my HR strap for accuracy. I turned off the notifications for various sound or social media apps, plus the weather. It still asks me to turn on the weather notifications, even after always pressing the "Don't Ask Again" button. It's just a disappointing product. On the plus side, the battery usage for a 3 hour run was only 8%, but knowing Garmin's battery policy from the 220, it has a planned obsolescence. It also finds the satellite quickly, but can't measure well from wayyyy up there.

It is growing on me

I am not a runner. But I am a senior citizen who loves to exercise but doesn’t use a smart phone. I had a list of models that work well without a smart phone but our local running store didn’t carry those so I bought this Forerunner 55. I live in a rural county with limited shopping options. So far I am please with this fitness watch. It has far more capability than my old Forerunner 35. I like being able to see my heart rate, sleep results, steps, gps of my walks and it does a great job with my cardio and yoga workouts. There are a lot of interesting stats that are monitored and I look forward to seeing what more it can do. The only downside is that when it is away in another room from my tablet it will vibrate too often as it connects and disconnects as I move. I have to bring my tablet into my gym room when I exercise for this reason. It does the same if I go to bed early or sleep late. I am past the age of running due to arthritis but this running watch does work for many other things.

not easy to use

I bought the watch 2 weeks ago and I am still struggling to learn how to use it. The watch controls and options are not easy or intuitive to use. the downloaded manual isn't that helpful. Maybe all Garmins are like this now. My old Forerunner was so easy to use. I want distance, pace, time, and HR one one screen, seems impossible. Also some things are hard to read being so small

Great Watch

I had an Apple Watch and decided to jump to the Garmin. So glad I did! It is more conducive to my interval workouts both indoor and outdoor. And the battery life is FOREVER! I had to charge my Apple Watch every night. It is so nice to not have to remember to do that anymore.

Perfect watch for my activities!

I bought one of the Forerunner 55 watches for me and one for my girlfriend. It's great for keeping up for our activities as we work on burning more calories. I also love that she and I can keep up with each other through the Garmin Connect App and challenge each other in different competitions for the most steps and other activities. I don't like that she's way ahead of me in steps for the month. The only feature not available on this watch that we wish it had is tracking how many flights of stairs we walk in a day, a feature found on other Garmin watches.
