poor security

Only giving 2 stars to Overall Rating due to the poor security due to the size of the shreds of paper. Very poor security for this shredder. If you have paper printed in landscape mode, you can have an "entire" Tax I.D. number, etc. on a piece of shredded paper. The strips are too long. The purpose of shredding is to destroy any information on a piece of paper and this shredder does not do it. It is sturdy, handles lots of paper and is fast. Like the fact it will stop if taking too much paper. However, after 2 months, I am already looking for another shredder due to the poor security of the shredded pages.

Great Shredder for the Money

Overall this is a very good shredder for the price. I've only used it for a month, but so far it has not jammed - it even shreds credit cards and CD/DVD's! I really like the safety features too. My only complaint is that for single or really thin sheets of paper you have to really push it down into the shredder so that the sensor can activate the shredder. Other than that, a good value purchase for the money - 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I'm In Shredder's Heaven!

I had a shredder. It was frightfully heavy (it was a booger to move around), loud, and constantly jammed. (The cleaning crew probably cursed me for all the chunks of jammed paper scattered on the floor.) I talked my boss into getting a new one. It was the PS-79ci. It is everything the "old" shredder is not. It is lighter, but that's really not an issue because the Fellowes is on wheels (brilliant!) The control features are intuitive and easy to use (the blue "one" light is appealing and pleasant). It's much quieter, and hasn't even hinted at a jam. I am now looking for things to shred. I love this machine!

Great Product!! Would buy Again

This is one of those products that you always need around the house. Those cheap ones that go for less than fifty dollars are a complete waste of time. We were tired of having to purchase one every year. This time we invested in one that will last. So far this thing really eats up everything. I like the idea that you are recommended to oil it periodically, that way it will keep on working. You don't need anything else if you're looking for a very good shredder to use at home or for a small office. This particular one does not hold a whole lot of so I would not recommend it for a full office or big business although it is built to take the abuse and keep on working. And it is very quiet when you use, just so you know.

SIMPLY GREAT ! ! !

The Fellowes PS-79Ci has been the best shredder I have ever used. I had over three years of old receipts, statements, check stubs and other documents that the PS-79Ci went through in just a short time. The features are all just terrific. If you have a small or home office, this shredder will suit your needs.

Underwhelmed?

Not sure what all of the praise is about. It is quiet. It seems powerful. It does shred. On the other hand, it's incredibly messy. It is impossible to empty the bin without spilling shreds on the floor. The bin regularly dislodges, causing it to stop working (a safety feature) until you realign the bin. The full bin sensor is so sensitive it registers a full bin when the bin is only half full-- meaning you have to pull the bin out, spill some shreds, and pat down the trash in order to keep shredding. You have to shred something reasonably thick in order to activate the shredder, for example I cannot shred a single receipt or single sheet of paper-- just too flimsy to activate the shredder. Generally I have to shred at least 3 sheets at a time, and receipts must be fed in with something more substantial. The safety feature that shuts the machine off if your hands touch it is more annoying than useful. I keep tweezers next to the machine to defeat this safeguard.

Fellowes is the best

This Fellowes 79Ci is replacing a Fellowes PS 60CC shredder we bought in 1996, which has finally given up. If this new one lasts half as long, I will be happy. So far, the new shredder is living up to it's praises. The one small complaint I have is that the basket fills up too fast and I think that is because the cut size is larger than our previous shredder. It is quieter and safer to use. I wouldn't buy a shredder unless the Fellowes name was on it.

Does the Job

Have used product for two days and only experienced one paper jam, which I was able to clear up quickly. While not silent, it's a lot quieter than the previous shredder I owned. Works as advertised and appears to be a reliable shredder that will offer years of service. Comes with a small vial of lubricant, which is a nice touch. Instructions should inform user to wipe excess lubricant from inside waste bin after applying. Bin fills up quickly. Fellowes includes three, clear recyclable bags to put shredded paper, which is useful. However, the supplied bags are not thick and sturdy, and I had to apply tape on a small tear on one bag after transferring the waste paper. Be sure to use a recyclable bag that is large enough to fit over the waste bin to prevent shredded paper from falling to the floor when emptying the bin. Have not tried shredding credit cards or CDs/DVDs. Will try that later. The 79Ci has had no problems dealing with small staples.

Fellowes 79Ci

This is my fourth paper shredder I have owned. The other three were horrible products, frequently getting plugged up with paper shreds, jamming, and just stopping. On top of that the office was always filled with dust from the shredding process. Based on my use of the Fellowes 79Ci so far, this may just be my last purchase! It performs exactly as advertised. It is quiet, gobbles up paper, is near impossible to jam, and the shredding mechanism never needs cleaning or unplugging. Fellowes gets an A++ on this product !

Love this Shredder!

This shredder is very quiet compared to others that we have used. It handles a reasonable amount of paper and lets you know if you put too much paper into it to begin with so that you don't end up with a jam. If the papers go crooked and double up the volume being shredded, the shredder powers through it without jamming up. The safety features work well and it also handles credit card and CD's very nicely. I would definitely recommend this shredder!!!
