For whatever reason, Depends has replaced the excellent men's Guards pad product and replaced it with a new version--now in a grey package--that is less comfortable, less absorbent and unfortunately less "dependable". I'm a little angry. At first I thought it could be my imagination. So I thought to check it out on line--and sure enough-- there's a lot of complaints. There's not much choice in this product area--so I feel kind of stuck. The cynic in me would say the product change is a deliberate attempt to require more frequent pad changes so that unit sales can increase say 30% in about 2 months after product rollout. But why ruin the firm reputation and invite a competing product? The bottom line is: I hate the feel of the new pad. Within three hours I feel like I'm wearing a fat diaper. I encourage others to write in their own thoughts. They say social media like Facebook is the best way to put the heat on. This review here will go nowhere.

I actually buy this product for my 13 year old male beagle. As he has aged, he has some incontinence issues. He is on medication which helps, but does not completely take care of his issues. I have tried a lot of other products and found that this one, the Depends guards for Men works GREAT. I insert the pad into a cloth diaper for him and it works great. (I am a 32 year old female who buys a male incontinent product for my dog. :) )

I recently had a prostatectomy and have been using the Depend Guards for Men for 3 1/2 months. Rather then just using them in my briefs I decided to use an athletic supporter and have found that provides more protection from leakage. I then use my briefs over the supporter. It puts the Guards next to my body, which helps with any excessive leakage, and is especially helpful when I go to bed at night. I have noticed that the additional pressure, the supporter provides, gives just enough pressure, to help maintain bladder control. I continue to do Kegel excercises which is necessary for improving bladder control. Although this idea may not help everyone it has definately given me more confidence in controlling leakage. I have not tried the thinner Shields for Men but would think the same thing, I do now with the supporter, will definately be helpful.

About 4 months ago I underwent a medical proceedure that caused bouts of partial incontinence. Like other men my first resort was traditional sanitary pads. The design of these pads did not accomidate the male needs so I looked for alternatives and graduadly rulled out everything but the Depends Guards for Men. However, after a while and several very embarrising accidents I noticed what I consider a critical defect in the manufacturing construction of the Depends Guards. The mastic that is saposed to secure the pad to the undergarment. The shortcoming of the design was a failure of the front-top portion of the pad which led to the front-top of the garment folding inward which inturn led to leakage and/or sticking to vital parts. The sticking was uncomfortable at best and frequently painful attachment to undesirable boidy parts. Since this series of malfunctions I have switched to another brand with somewhat more durable mastic. Oddly enough a generic substitute that out proforms a name brand.

I have tried different brands of guards and when Depends came out with the new guards I tried them. Still not very good. My favorite is Tena Guards. They have a triangular design that affords better coverage and is more dependable. May not have as much absorpency and needs to be changed a little bit more often, but not as much chance of leaks to the side.

BEEN USING DEPENDS FOR 12 YEARS FOLLOWING SURGERY TO CORRECT A SIDE EFFECT OF BRACHYTHERAPY. THE NEW VERSION FELT THE SAME AS THE PRODUCT IT REPLACED. UNFORTUNATELY, MY EXPERIENCES HAVE NOT BEEN GOOD. I USUALLY BUY 4 TO 6 PACKAGES AT A TIME AND THE PREVIOUS PRODUCT LASTED ABOUT A MONTH FOR EACH PACKAGE. I DID NOT KNOW THE PRODUCT HAD BEEN 'IMPROVED' UNTIL I RAN LOW AND BOUGHT 5 MORE PACKAGES. HERE ARE MY PROBLEMS: I HAVE GONE THROUGH 2 PACKAGES IN 5 WEEKS, SIGNIFICANTLY MORE EXPENSIVE! I DO NOT BELIEVE MY LEAKAGE HAS INCREASED AT THE SAME TIME AS CHANGING PRODUCTS, BUT IF I COULD FIND THE OLD PRODUCT I WOULD SURELY TEST THIS POSSIBILITY. THE PRODUCT HOLDS LESS VOLUME. WITH THE PREVIOUS PRODUCT IN 12 YEARS I HAD ONLY 2 PUBLIC ACCIDENTS WHERE THE URINE FILLED AND LEAKED (I CARRY SPARES) I HAVE HAD 6 ACCIDENTS IN THE PAST 5 WEEKS WITHOUT WARNING AND BEFORE I COULD GET TO A RESTROOM. IF THERE IS A TRICK TO USING THE NEW ONES, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND IT.

The new Depends Guards for men in the grey package does not absorb even close to the green package of guards. They tell me that they stopped making the green package guards.The new guards does not work. I have used depends guards for 5 years and was very happy. But just got the new guards and they are horrible, trust me. My friend said the same thing. They do not absorb like the old ones. Now I have to find something that works like the old guards. They have cheapened the product.

For my needs would be the shields. The guards were a bit bulky, and didn't stay in place as well as the shields did. Both did an excellent job of absorption, and odor control. I was very happy with both; if you just dribble a bit, I'd suggest the shields. However, the guards are a bit better for overnight. You'll be happy with either one I think.

I have been using this product for 19 years following a radical prostatectomy. Due to increased incontinence, I now go through three 52 count packages per month. No help from any insurance, so it is a rather expensive option, but still better than other options. Would be nice if they sealed a little better as they often leak. Any chance of getting coupons sent out on a monthly basis? I have tried all other brands, and Depends Guards are still the best!
