It uses this super bright, dual spectrum blue and UV light which basically acts like a magnet for bugs. They just fly in and get stuck to the adhesive pad inside. It is completely silent, mess free and pet safe. There is no weird chemical smell and best of the all, it hides the bugs behind while it's plugged in so you do not see them. The blue light is a bonus because it works as a nightlight in my kitchen. One downside is that the package only came with one cartridge so you do have to invest in refills but for how effective it is, the price is totally worth it.
