Great TV but....

Already owning an older LG OLED the menu system on the C4 is not as slick as my 2015 B6, forced advertising on the central menu where it should just be a home screen with the owner choosing where they want to go. PQ is excellent but I don't think I would now go with a new LG OLED for my main TV which is due an update. Just make the TV great don't spoil the experience for owners.

A Superb OLED TV

UNBOXING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS The unboxing experience was positive, it comes in an easily removed box/packaging and can be done by one person, although it would be easier with two. Once out the box, my first impression was Wow! The top 2 thirds of the screen are impossibly thin, and even on the lower third, where all the electronics and connections are, it doesn't get that much thicker. Most of the connections are on the left-hand edge, with the power cable coming out on the right. PICTURE QUALITY This was amazing! Being OLED, the blacks are inky black, but what amazed me was how bright it gets. I had heard OLEDs don't get very bright, but I was blown away. While watching a 4k Blu-ray of Star Trek, the ships details were bright and clear, while the surrounding space was ultra dark. After a bit of fiddling, I got the skin tone to be as accurate as looking at someone face-to-face. I had to turn off most of the AI and Auto functions, as they made everything too vivid and over-saturated for my eyes, but once setup, I was so happy. Motion is dealt with very too, with no blurring that I could see, so sports look great. I have heard the screen is really good for PC and console gaming, but I haven't tried that. SOUND This was probably the weakest aspect of the TV. For an LCD/OLED, it was actually impressive at first, but there's not much bass, although the sound is nicely balanced. No amount of fiddling would let it sound anywhere near the quality of my fairly low-end Sony soundbar though, so I won't be using the in-built speakers SMART FEATURES This was another aspect that really impressed me. The WebOS platform is quite mature now and the interface is quick and easy to use, with all the apps I need available. The remote, while fairly plasticky, is a joy to use, with the gyro 'mouse' making navigating to apps much quicker than just scrolling left and right. I have noticed no slow-down with the interface yet. In fact, I will probably be retiring my nVidia Shield and just using the TV from now on, which I was not expecting. All-in-all, this is by far the best TV I have ever used, and I would recommenbd it to anyone.

Very stylish tv, great for the money.

Great tv for the price, but problems with connectivity to bluetooth using my momentum 4 headphones and also a slight red tinge on the bottom left of the panel, overall I find the image to have a cyan/green shift. But very sharp, great depth to the image overall, even the rf standard definition channels show a significant improvement, coming from an lg c7.

Nice, but expensive, TV

As with any new TV it took a while and some care whilst working out the securing of the base and cable routing to the TV with a picture only instruction sheet, I’m sure there is a video online somewhere but it didn’t occur to me to view it. Similarly, once plugged in, working through all the setup steps, inputting email address etc. took a while but the remote control operated cursor made this a bit easier. Looking back it was pretty intuitive and everything worked from the go. Anything I’d missed in setup such as Alexa setup and features such as AI picture pro and it’s sound equivalent became apparent through subsequent screen prompts or through just browsing through the settings menu. Although not an LG issue I’m slightly disappointed in the shortage of UHD content available on channels. . Even The Euro 2024 football championships are only available in HDR on BBC i player, , Glastonbury and Tour de France 2024 similarly. It even appears that the Paris Olympics, although will be broadcast in 4K , is in a watered down version. Otherwise I’m left with the majority of my viewing being in normal but good quality resolution, albeit on a sophisticated and expensive TV

Recommended by WHICH magazine

This model was recommended by WHICH which helped me choose it. I needed a tv with a bigger screen and this replaced my 16 year old 32" Panasonic, and what a difference. It has a beautiful detailed picture with great sound, and lots of free streaming channels. Setting it up took a while though with lots of setting options I wasn't familiar with, but I got there in the end.

Great TV

Once the delivery guys found us, for 'plug & play', this basically meant putting the stand on and plugging it into the wall. I struggled to set it up as there are so many options. I checked various youtube videos and called LG as I was totally confused. 2 weeks on and we are happy as the telly is exceptional.

Great but with reservations over Smart TV function

Great picture quality. Good Sound.LG sound assistant fails to understand simple commands and often ends up blanking the screen when trying to start an app. YouTube app constantly buffers when all other streaming services work fine on a fast internet connection. Remote lightweight and not comfortable in my hand. Menus akward to navigate. Making picture adjustments when 4k is running is slow and unresponsive in parts.

I'll buy that for a dollar!

Great service from LG with a nice hefty discount and trade in for my previous LG curved 3D OLED. Fantastic picture compared to the early version which suffered from terrible burn in and I trust these newer models aren't quite so badly affected. Just a shame LG gave up on 3D simply because either people don't like wearing glasses (but have no issues posing with shades while driving) or they don't understand that 3D is fixed stereoscopic, and not like that 3D chess in Star Wars.

Less than a week in...

Less than a week owning the TV. The image is excellent. The webOS is all a little new yet but this is my first new TV for over a decade. Installation problems: despite connecting TV to the Web with WiFi and wired, the TV failed to find its User License Agreements - a common problem after checking forums - meaning many webOS services were restricted. Updated the TV, no joy. Attempted connecting to mobile hot-spot, nope. Anyway, they appeared magically overnight after leaving the TV connected to the WiFi. If you're hear presenter with the same problem, just sleep on it 🙂. The other issue currently is the mobile app won't connect to the TV, despite the TV recognising its attempts (TV dutifully shows me a connection code on screen when the mobile apps loaded, but the mobile app is blissfully unaware). This still hasn't worked, something about the TV only working on a 2ghz wireless signal I read, but I won't be losing any sleep over it - which is what fixed the other issue! Sort it out LG. Pictures lovely though! On to week two...
