If you put it horizontally or upside down, the dip tube will not contact the liquid inside. When that happens, only the propellant comes out, and there is not enough left to expel all liquid. Prolonged use of the spray in a tipped or inverted position could also deplete the propellant rapidly, resulting in product left in the container and insufficient gas to expel it properly.
