There's really no need to hardwire your Nest doorbell if you want to make it work with your older Nest cameras and Nest doorbell system. We understand your concerns regarding the limited free video history (3 hours) and the delay experienced when accessing live view. Nest has been long focused on delivering quality products to our customers, and providing value for the price. As we're always evaluating and refining our products based on customer’s feedback and industry trends, we’ve included three hours of event history right out of the box for the first time ever. On-device processing also gives our customers smart alerts and Activity Zones, which historically have required a subscription. There's no fee to stream full resolution live video, receive basic notifications, and view video history up to three hours in the past, as long as your doorbell is connected to the internet. However, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to receive advanced features. If the battery issue persists and you have easy access to an outlet, plugging the camera into a power outlet with the included power adapter might be a better fit, which is also required to get 24/7 recording. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and we suggest using a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).
