Beef tenderloin Roast

It looked like there may have been some tendon left on the outside, but when it was cooked, it was perfect. We had guests for dinner who all remarked about the taste and quality of the roast.

Tender/Flavorful

Purchased a small 1 3/4 pound roast to test quality of Sam’s prime beef. Had to trim silver skin and a small amount of fat as well as tie the roast. Applied prime rib rub and placed in refrigerator for eight hours. Smoked roast @ 225 till internal temp reached 115 then seared all sides @ 600 degrees until internal temp reached 130. Topped with smoked garlic butter while resting. The result was incredible, the meat could be cut with a fork. By far the most tender and flavorful piece of beef we have ever had.

Imported and not prime anymore

We purchased prime tenderloin for over 30 years and never had trouble. Since the beginning of 2023 they changed suppliers and their standards. We have purchased 6 whole tenderloins all full of gristle, tough and lacking marble. We won't be buying anymore. No longer sourced in the USA.

Not even close to the photo

If only the roast looked like the photo. There was so much to clean up and I just ended up cutting it into steaks. Too bad. The taste was good, but the roast I received wasn't even close to this nice picture.

Beware if you are looking to feed more than 3-4.

Ordered this beef tenderloin roast for Christmas Eve. Advertised @ $24 per pound with a total cost of $121.00 depending on actual weight. Went to pick it up two days before and they gave me a 2lb roast for around $50. I said “what am I supposed to do with this? I need to feed 6 people!” No where does it allow you to specify how large of a roast you need, but it did say the total cost would be around $120 so I figured it would be around 6 lbs. Then she tells me I have to take it because I ordered it. Not true!! I did end up taking it for use at a later date though and then went inside and purchased a prime beef tenderloin off the shelf.

Pass on this

Not worth the extra money. Had better tenderloin cut and taste with USDA Choice!

Prime Whole Filet Meat Disappoints

This prime filet had so much grizzle in it we would not serve it to our dinner party.

You don’t know what you are going to get!

I was making a beef Wellington and needed 3lbs of beef tenderloin. I ordered it on the app and from the first order it looked like they sell it at 3.75lbs, so I thought great. Then when I checked out on the app. the price reflected 3lbs. I thought even better, that is what I needed anyways. When I went to pick it up the price reflected 1.5lbs. I immediately returned it and complained. You do not know how much you are going to get. I guess they just give you what they want to give you depending on their mood. How come you can’t put in the app the pounds you need, that would make to much sense I guess.

Horrible texture - what meat was really used?

I'm an accomplished cook and roasted this as I've done other tenderloins. The texture of this beef on the inside wasn't fit to be eaten by animals let alone humans. It was complete mush, there was no structure to the meat - it was like canned dog food. The entire $85 piece of whatever it was got thrown in the garbage. I wouldn't even let my dogs eat it.
