That’s a lovely bunch of bananas in your picture. Mine came looking like they’d been to war. One is definitely beyond overripe; they didn’t have the protective tape over the stems—the tape blocks the escape of ethylene gas, the same gas that when released from the bananas into the air, causes them to ripen.

I had stopped buying bananas at Sam's because they tasted funny. They were passable in a bowl of milk %26 cereal or in a banana split. But the non-organic bananas were awful if you just wanted to eat a banana. I also noticed the non-organic bananas I was getting at Sam's never developed any brown spots and would just stay yellow for weeks. Not a single blemish after 2 weeks. That didn't seem normal. They literally never got ripe enough for banana bread. Then I decided to try the organic bananas. It was an enormous difference! The organic bananas have a much better flavor. They also develop brown spots and get mushy, like normal bananas. I don't think it's as much a matter that the organic bananas are better as it is that the normal bananas just ain't right. That said, even the organic bananas aren't incredibly sweet and fresh. I'm in a Gulf Coast state, so we are used to getting really fresh bananas from Central America. These definitely aren't as good as those. But, for the price, the organic bananas are an okay deal.

We bought these bananas a week ago and they have not ripped at all. You still cannot peel them a week later and they are still very green. They do not taste sweet when we cut them open. They had the organic band on them and were the brand Chiquita. When I looked up what they scanned as it was Dole. We always get our bananas from Sam's but this batch was not good at all.

Bananas were soft and mushy, overripe with black patches on some places.

For whatever reason these get mushy and go bad pretty fast.
