Amazingly powerful and still portable!

We absolutely LOVE our new generator. We can run all the critical items in our home during an outage, including our ductless A/C unit! We lived through hurricane Matthew last year and with a new storm season on us again here in FL, we bought this generator. Its as close to 'stand by' as we can afford - and we couldn't be happier to have it!

Ready for anything now

Last month had the transfer station installed in order to use my new 7500. This model seems like the prefect match for me. Since I'm a single older female the electric start is a blessing. This unit should get me through any power outage when the next one happens.

Excellent quality product with a great reputation

After 5-6 months or research, I selected the GeneracGP8000E for a whole home emergency backup system, had it installed and am very pleased with this purchase. It is easy to start and maintain, and surprisingly easy to move around given its weight. It's noise level when running is satisfactory and I am looking forward to a worry free winter.

Great generator, and...

I am relieved to have the Generac GP8000E on hand in case of power outages. But, some small inconveniences: Serial Number is extremely difficult to locate and read. Generac Website is cumbersome for product registration and entering recall form info. The Zip Code +4 field will not accept the extra 4 characters. I have been turned down from qualifying for a recall and don't know if it is because of the zip code problem. So far, unable to locate a Generac recommendation for an exhaust extension.

A workhorse

I bought THIS generator because of the past experience with the brand, AND because this unit had a larger engine than most of the similarly sized generators. The typical 15kw genset has an 18 to 22 horsepower engine. This model has a 30hp engine!! That extra horsepower means greater power margin for starting loads like HVAC compressors. I calculated that I needed 10kw, and this units 22kw starting capacity exceeded that substantially... But in my experience I need more than the minimum because if the hvac computer crashes because of voltage drop, then starting will fail. You mush have excess power during the starting of the compressor to keep the computers happy. So I picked carefully, and while this one has much more power than I require, the price point and performance thresholds were met by *only* this generator. So I did my first test running the whole house, and this generator handled the load with few problems, but the power was very noisy, very high harmonic distortion. Some things in the house ran fine, but things powered on transformers did not like the power. The home thermostat was inoperable, the computer in the dishwasher crashed, several of the UPS systems did not like the power and complained, and my smart LED lights were very unhappy. Sensitive loads did not like this generator at all... But once I got the thermostat bypassed, the HVAC compressor seemed to run fairly well, though the compressor was noisier than normal. So to meet my needs I decided to buy the largest inverter generator that I could fine to run the house and electronics, and the Generac GP15000E is dedicated to the HVAC compressor *only*. The HVAC blower and electronics run on the inverter generator where they are fed a true sine wave. I didn't set out to buy this much excess capacity, but I still paid less than I would have if I had bought a similarly sized whole home generator, and I have a reconfigurable power plant now so I can handle any need.

Feeling good about having a good generator

Purchased the unit in the morning and had it fully loaded up and operating that afternoon. It handled 6kw of electric heat without any issue which would be the maximum load I would expect to have on this generator in winter conditions. I have a generator panel so have the ability to switch load as I need it including heat, water pump, refrigerator, freezer etc. While I'm not looking forward to the next major power outage I do feel much more prepared for that event.

Great Generator if you can get it started and keep it going.

One reason I purchased this generator was for the ease of starting it with the electric starter when the power goes out. The first week I had it, it started right up, but once I removed the trickle charger that came with it for a couple days it wouldn't start. I figured it had a bad battery or a short in the system, so I took it to a Generac authorized repair shop to have it checked out and they said the battery was bad and replaced it. Sad to say the new battery was also dead after sitting a couple of days. I did some research on the internet and discovered that this Generac Model had issues of shorting out and causing the battery to drain and die. I installed an on/off toggle switch to isolate the battery when not in use and that fixed the shorting out issue. One other issue that I've ran into, is that this CO sensor is almost too sensitive, if the wind blows the exhaust back towards the generators CO sensor it will shut down unexpectedly, so I have to position the exhaust pipe towards the same direction as the wind is blowing. Now that I know what it takes to get this generator started and keep it going it's actually a really good generator and it performs well, it's just not user friendly.

It would have been great if all the parts came with this generator

Missing parts out of the box. Cannot put the unit together properly. Will try to contact the company after the weekend. Would love to be able to move this unit from where it was delivered but cannot install the wheels without the axle. I hope this isn't what the rest of my experiences are going to be like.

Great generator overall

Uncrating was simple, as was setting it up. No missing parts. Followed setup directions which were fairly easy. Added oil and gas. Turned fuel lever on and pressed the start button and it started right up and ran great! Would highly reccomend this generator. You will not be dissapointed! Let the power go out. I am prepared! Thanks generac!

Good Product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The unit was package very well and sturdy in the box. This is my fisrt time assembly a generator and this one was pretty easy. It only took about 45 minutes. I test this unit for about 4 hours for a total of five days. It is not as loyd as I thought it would be. No problem hooking up my cords. It has a twist adapter which is a plus. It also show how long you have for power. Lastly, I finally took this to a tailgating event. This works so well. Everything worked so well.
