GP 7680 Replaced Generac EP-4600

During hurricane Sally, my old Generac EP-4600 model 09700-0 (from hurricane Katrina) provided power for house lighting, three refrigerators, a freezer, televisions and computer system. After two weeks, it had a metal fatigue failure, but I was able to jury rig a patch to keep it on line until Gulf Power restored service two days later. Time to retire. The new GP 7680 model G0076801 puts out more power with less noise. The fit and finish looks even more sturdy than the old Generac. It has enough additional power output to time share a couple of window air conditioners or hot water heater. The 7680 started on the second pull, much easier to start than the 4600. The fuel valve and choke are more convenient. The control-indicator panel makes it easy to find, operate and connect to all the indicators, switches, circuit breakers and output connectors. The operator can do everything from one position. No need to move around the generator. Fuel gauge beats a dipstick The little instruction diagrams make it easy for anyone to remember all the steps for starting and shutting down the unit. The Owner's Manual points out the different procedures for securing the unit for long time storage. The tube from the fuel valve to fuel filter provides a convenient place to open the line for draining the fuel tank. The valve cover appears to be accessible for the 50 hour maintenance. I believe more design improvements will emerge over time. The unit appears to be built for even greater reliability than the EP-4600.

Safety!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Put oil and gas in this baby a she fired right up, didn't skip a beat!! I am so happy and relieved to have this "security blanket" just in case of a snowstorm, as our main heat source comes from a pellet stove. I feel safe now that I have this reliable backup!!

Nice Generator

This is a great generator as long as you keep the battery fully charged. 1. Keep the generator battery charged. It will not pull start with a dead battery. Use the battery charged that comes with the generator. 2. If you can't keep the generator on the charger install a battery disconnect between the battery cable and the battery. My battery would drain when sitting for 2 weeks or more. The switch solves the problem. I really like the generator..

Solid & Effective

A portable, reliable, economical, means of standby power. It is a bit louder than I like but wear earplugs if you are bothered by the noise level. This machine is used for jobsite applications such as a vacuum, portable halogen lighting and misc. charging. Follow the wattage charts for appliance applications to ensure you have the right size generator to handle the load required. Do not overload any machine even a Generac.

Was able to get an outstanding deal on a slightly used, 0.4 hrs., 15000e.

I wired the generator up to the house and tested it out. Ran everything including a 3.5 ton AC. Now ready for the inevitable South Florida Hurricanes. Unit started right up after I replaced a 4 year old battery that was completely dead. One of my best purchases.

Exactly what I needed

Living in Metro Detroit I unfortunately have the regional power supplier as my electric utility. Unfortunately the power is just a bit less reliable than it is in Afghanistan. After numerous outages and a ridiculous amount of damage I bought this generator. Unboxed it, put the frame and wheels together, added the oil and gasoline and it starts on the first pull (actually not even a pull - just a tug after the starter engaged). Light enough for me to lift myself, and with the wheels it is easily mobile. More than enough power to run the sump pump, freezer, and refrigerator for short spells during the numerous outages I experience. Extremely easy to use and maintain. It is unfortunate I need to own something like this at all, but since I do I doubt I could do better. Do the scheduled maintenance and it is always ready and should last indefinitely. Given the track record of the local utility they should be required to provide one for every customer.

Only generator I considered buying.

Great product, well made, starts immediately with electric start. I only ran it for a short time after installing the house electrical transfer panel. Generator handled everything with no problem. I do wish that there would be an oil filter for the engine. I know someone with a 10,000 watt generator and that has an oil filter.

Great Gen

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was very simple to put together and it fired up on the first pull. We use this for our camper should we go out in the woods without hook ups. Like I stated it fires right up and works AWESOME. My brother is looking for one and I have suggested this to him.

Good So Far

We purchased this generator to serve both as a power back-up to our house; and for ad-hoc use on the farm in locations where we don't have power. We have gas furnace and water heater so this size (7,500 watts) is big enough to run our well pump, sump pump, furnace, water heater, microwave, and two rooms worth of outlets. We are using a transfer switch so all we need to do is wheel out the generator and plug it in. The assembly is pretty basic (wheels and handle) went fairly well (its heavy). The oil filler cap could be in an easier area to get to (you will need a funnel to get oil into it). Once it was gassed and oiled up it started after just a little bit of choking, and after that it starts the first time every time with the push of the electric start. So far we haven't really taxed the generator yet but it has run well so far. I saw the comments in other reviews about gas leaking but I simply switch the fuel supply to off (with the easy to get to lever) and let the engine run a bit until it starts to sputter and then turn it off and there are no fuel leaks (better for longer term storage this way also). Thus, so far so good and seems it will work well for us - hopefully we never have to find out!!

Just what I needed

Been through many hurricanes and never needed a generator until hurricane Florence. Bought the generac two days before the storm hit. Lost power the night of the storm. Started the generator on the first pull the next morning and it ran 4 days straight without any issues. Great product. Thanks Generac!
