We can reassure you that our inks are water based and comply with FDA standards for food contact safety. Although this is not a normal occurrence for this to occur, there are factors that can lead to this; things such as extreme or high temperature foods being placed onto the plate, microwave usage outside of the guidelines of the manufacturer or some type of disruption in the barrier coatings (i.e. cut marks, folds, creases).
