Recent pie changes are for the worse.

The apple pie was good for years UNTIL they switched to the honey crisp apple - which is not a baking apple. It is tough %26 overly sweet. AND the blueberry pie filling got it right for 2 weeks and then it disappeared from the store - replaced by a very poor mixed berry and junk crumbs.

Flavor Was Good But The Pie Fell Apart

This is the first time buying this pie and while the taste of the filling was good the integrity was not. The pie was under baked causing the bottom crust to be soggy and doughy. I could not cut a clean slice. It literally fell apart. It was very disappointing. I understand the pies are mass produced but you need to find a way to get the bottom crust baked all the way through.

Honeycrisp Apple Lattice Pie in name only

Analysis and answer This is a Honeycrisp Apple Lattice Pie in name only. In practice, it is an industrial food formulation designed for shelf life, cost control, texture stability, and mass production. WHAT IT IS MADE OF • Apples are present, but structurally supported by starches and sugars • Enriched flour. Stripped grain with synthetic vitamins added back • Vegetable shortening from palm oil and soy oil. Cheap, stable fats, not food fats • Multiple sugars: sugar and dextrose • Modified tapioca starch and modified corn starch for thickening and consistency • Preservatives: potassium sorbate and calcium propionate • Acidifiers: citric acid This is not a recipe. It is a formulation. WHY EVERYTHING BECOMES A CHEMICAL COCKTAIL 1. Shelf life beats food quality Real food spoils. Corporations want products that last weeks or months in warehouses and trucks. Preservatives and stabilizers solve that problem. 2. Consistency replaces skill Real pie varies by batch, apple moisture, baking conditions. Modified starches and emulsifiers guarantee identical texture every time, regardless of ingredients. 3. Cost optimization Butter, eggs, and fresh flour are expensive and unstable. Palm oil, soy oil, starches, and sugar are cheap, subsidized, and predictable. 4. Speed of production Factories need ingredients that behave the same at scale. Real food is variable. Chemicals are controllable. 5. Consumer addiction, not nourishment Sugar plus fat plus refined starch hits dopamine hard. Fiber and protein are minimized because they reduce repeat cravings. This slice has 380 calories and only 2 g fiber. That is deliberate. 6. Regulatory loopholes If an additive is approved as safe individually, it can be stacked endlessly. No requirement exists to test cumulative or long term metabolic effects of combinations. THE REALITY • 36% of daily added sugar in one slice • 40% of daily saturated fat • Ultra refined carbohydrates with minimal fiber • Preservatives and modified starches doing the structural work real ingredients should do BOTTOM LINE Everything becomes a chemical cocktail because industrial food is engineered for profit, logistics, and shelf life, not human biology. This pie is not meant to feed you. It is meant to survive transport, look identical everywhere, and make you want another slice. If you made this at home, the ingredient list would be: Apples, flour, butter, sugar, cinnamon. That contrast tells you everything.

In the past, when I purchased this pie it was perfect. However, the last time I purchased it for memorial day, it had a sugar glaze on top that we've never seen before. It left a hard sugar crunch on top of the pie that changed the taste and texture of the pie. Unsure if I will purchase in the future.

Big and Tasty

Pie was very tasty. It was huge and fed 10 people a nice sized portion on Thanksgiving. I would buy again!

The most delicious Apple Pie!

I'm always hesitant to buy store bought pies but I purchased this one for a last minute event and it was a huge hit. The best crust and the large apple slices were spiced perfectly. Now I buy one at least once a month. Great price too!

Not as Good as Before

Sam's used to have the best apple pie, but they must have changed vendors or recipe. Used to be tart but now too sweet and pie crust is too thick making it too doughy.

Always a hit

We always get this pie for dinner parties. It is delicious. We warm it at 200° while we eat dinner and serve it with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
