They are thrown directly into the drum of the washing machine and all their fragrance penetrates the clothes that last up to 12 weeks. It dissolves easily in the washing machine. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Downy Unstopables fresh laundry booster instead of the product I was currently using and noticed that it left the clothes with a nice fresh clean scent. I put this in the bottom of my top load washer, added clothes and then laundry soap. The scent beads dissolved nicely without any sticky residue. The only drawback to this is the price.
