Once grass germinates, it is very sensitive to the environment until it is able to become established. Even premium grass seedlings can be damaged by herbicides, fungus, or heat stresses. If the new grass does not have at least thirty days of growth before dormancy is triggered by extreme temperatures, it may not have stored enough energy to survive.
