A Great Portable Generator

New model from Generac. Assembly of the unit was amazingly simple. Directions were very clear except the exclusion of the guideline to attach the spark plug connection to the spark plug, I assumed this was already done before shipping. Start up was very quick and easy. Tested the generator and it ran well and meets all my needs and expectation. Sleek appearance and many great features

Excellent unit but very loud and easy to operate.

The unit was delivered and it took me a few weeks before I set it up. Too bad it doesn't ship with wheel kit already installed, it is a 2 man job for set up. After getting the transfer switch installed, tested the unit on a full load and works great. Easy to crank but had to purchase a charger for the battery after 3 months. It is loud even when placed in idle mode and the metal cover rattles near the muffler. I love it though.

good quality machine and good price

Just got generator today, it is replacing an older, smaller one of another brand. Put it together with no problems and it cranked right up and ran smooth. This will be for occasional use as a home backup generator. Looking forward to many years of service from it.

Exactly what I needed

Living in Metro Detroit I unfortunately have the regional power supplier as my electric utility. Unfortunately the power is just a bit less reliable than it is in Afghanistan. After numerous outages and a ridiculous amount of damage I bought this generator. Unboxed it, put the frame and wheels together, added the oil and gasoline and it starts on the first pull (actually not even a pull - just a tug after the starter engaged). Light enough for me to lift myself, and with the wheels it is easily mobile. More than enough power to run the sump pump, freezer, and refrigerator for short spells during the numerous outages I experience. Extremely easy to use and maintain. It is unfortunate I need to own something like this at all, but since I do I doubt I could do better. Do the scheduled maintenance and it is always ready and should last indefinitely. Given the track record of the local utility they should be required to provide one for every customer.

Great Quality

This is the third Generac I have owned and it is the very best. The electric start is wonderful and all the features can't be beat.Glad to see solid tires no more flat tires. Very reliable and the heavy duty chord that comes with it it is very handy.

Easy & Reliable Operation

Assembling the product was easy and took about 45 minutes. I found the generator to start easily and it took no time for it to provide power to my home during a power outage. My 15,000 watt generator provides me and my family the safety and comfort we were looking for in the event of an emergency. This is the second Generac I have owned, my first one was a 1987 model 5,000 watt which I sold to purchase my new model. I highly recommend purchasing one.

Still think I made a good choice, BUT,...

The first, "just out of the box" test run was at once a success and a failure. The success: It started (took a few pulls but that's no surprise with the carb and fuel lines empty) and ran smoothly (it's quieter than I expected - a bonus). The "fail" part: BOTH vibration mounts on the unit's left side ("left" relative to the end where the recoil starter, air cleaner, and choke lever are located) BROKE (rubber and metal separated) while I was attempting to start it (and no, I didn't use excessive force pulling the starter rope). I'll be contacting Customer Service about getting replacements.

Very Happy

Here in the Northeast we just got pounded with a winter blizzard, power out for 5 days on my street. Our Generac 6500 performed up to my expectations and then some. 90+ hours of straight run time and didnt skip a beat. We had this unit wired direct from our service panel to tranfer breaker panel with an outside outlet and 20' cord. 2- Frig's, heat, kitchen lights and outlets, microwave, livingroom lights and outlets, 3 bedrooms lights, office lights and outlets, garage lights, 2 bathrooms lights, cable, internet, tv..

This product works great

The only problem we have is the manual and the website is useless for this model. Changing the oil is NOT as instructed in the manual or on the website. There is no plug for draining the oil. Also, finding the "Serial No." is impossible. It is not where you are directed to look by the help line, the website, or the manual.

Overall a good generator

I bought my GP8000e a few years ago. It's been a fairly good machine overall. It's fairly easy on gas. We run a light load most of the time. Fuel consumption is somewhere around .33 - .5 GPH. There's plenty of power on hand for when the submersible well pump starts. You hardly even notice it. The electric start is a great feature. The battery charger is also another good design feature. It was a wise choice to do it that way. There have been a few downsides. Cold starts around 0 deg F can be a little difficult. Keep a can of starting fluid on hand and use it sparingly. I had to remake a few of the welds on the frame. Though very careful to use non-ethanol premium fuel treated with stabilizer ... the carb did need to be removed and cleaned in it's second year of operation. It's probably best not to run the carb dry of fuel. Another thing is that the steel fuel tank began to rust and the fuel gauge clouded up within the first year. It might be helpful to redesign the start/run/stop rocker switch. You can inadvertently hit the starter with the machine running when you are intending to shut it down. In summary ... the core of the machine ... motor and alternator are pretty solid. The peripherals like the frame, fuel tank, and rocker switch could use a bit of improvement.
