Life in the Tropics

I live in Puerto Rico, and since Hurricane María destroyed our power grid, almost 5 years later we are still having constant island-wide blackouts. The most recent in April, 2022, all the generating power plants on the island shut down due to a fire in a switch yard. Four days later, half the island is still without power, including us. I've used it once before during a brief blackout and it did well. Today it looks like we're going to be without power for at least another 24 hours (I had power restored two days ago but today it went out again). I plugged it in to the house with a manual transfer switch. Right now it's nightfall, and I am running two refrigerators, kitchen and living room lights, all ceiling fans running, and not a hiccup from the set. The electrician that installed the transfer switch says that if power doesn't come back later, I could turn off the refrigerators and turn on one bedroom inverter mini-split air conditioner. Thoroughly satisfied with this product. Thank you Generac. Now buying a whole house automatic propane or diesel set and/or a Powerwall with Generac seems like a wise investment. Until then, this GP6500 will do just fine.

Great product, great features, great price!

This unit replaces our 14 year old Generac 4000XL so we knew about product quality and support. This unit is connected to our service panel and can run everything we need in the event of a grid failure! My only complaint is that it does NOT have an idle control like our 4000XL, so it will not use fuel as efficiently. That said, we would still highly recommend this generator.

Great for whole house use after tornado

I just survived a devastating tornado in Chattanooga in April 2020. I actually bought this generator in 2013 for emergencies but had not used it much until now. When my areas grid was completely wiped out I rolled out the GP1500 and ran it for over 3 days to keep my house running and food frozen, Many of my neighbors lost all their food and with the Covid crisis going on that is a serious time as we are on lockdown here in Tennessee. The GP1500 powered my house and kept my family safe and fed and warm etc until power was restored. What a great product and it never flinched with the hot water heater, or HVAC etc running. All I had to do was be careful and not try to run everything all at once. Thanks Generac you saved us in 2020.

Very nice generator for a great price!

I researched generators for a while and this unit is perfect for what I need and the price was excellent. I set it all up and tested it out, everything works fine. I don't really want a storm or power outage but until that happens, I haven't fully tested this unit yet.

Let me down during the storm

Helene came through, purchased this generator and it ran for less that 25 hours and wouldn't keep running. Took it to the local services center and had to pay $40 for them to evaluate it for repair. Makes me leery of investing in a whole home system through generac.

gas tank leaking

I have had this 2 years, I have run it 60 hours. The gas tank leaks where it bolts to the frame. It's a bad design or poor manufacturing, Not made in USA for sure. Too many models and design changes to keep track of in my opinion. Just trying to get the tank replaced has taken 6 calls, 3 emails, and still no results.

Great and reliable product to purchase.

2 of my friends, my sister and I brought the GP6500 Generator 2 days after Hurricane Helene hit our hometown in Georgia September 2024. I assisted 1 of my friend with the assembly process and I assembled both mine and my sister's generator by myself. It was a simple process. Once gas was added to the fuel tank, all of them cranked up on the first pull and stayed running until they either ran out of gas or was turned off manually. The generators was a life saver. They supplied power to what we needed and never failed to perform perfectly. They were used for 6 days before the utility company was able to provide us electricity again. I am now in the process of trying to get a manual transfer switch and power inlet box installed so that I can be more prepared for the next power outage. Thanks Generac.

One of the best Generators out there!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This portable generator by Generac is exactly what you need for camping, power outages, or basically whatever diy project. It's tri fuel which makes it convenient and it's not very loud so it won't disturb your neighbors!

Great to have as a backup for extreme weather

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We live in a place that is prone to have extreme climate, and sometimes the power can go out when it's either too hot or too cold. A generator is a necessity for those occasions, particularly to help keep the house at an adequate temperature - whether by powering AC or help turn on space heaters and/or fans. What I like about this product is that it is tri fuel - it can work with gasoline, propane, and natural gas, depending on your needs. We tested it out with gasoline and it worked just fine. Gasoline is also how you can get the most wattage and longest run time. Noise level is pretty ok as well, about what expected for a generator this big. The unit is very heavy, which makes a little bit tricky to get it out of the box for the first time. But once you install the wheels and handle, moving it around becomes super easy. Assembly would also be easier if it included the hex tool, but otherwise it was ok and pretty straightforward. We now need a natural gas hookup so we can have the option to use any of three methods it needed.

Huge!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This generator is huge! It's super powerful and loud. It powers a 250amp welder with no problem and powers our small RV with the ac easily. It is loud but it's a beast! It is heavy but easy to move with the handle bar and big tires. My husband is very happy with it.
