For the convenience of buying this pergola with all the pieces cut and pretty sanded already for a DIY assembly, as well as it being nice cedar, it truly does hit all the marks. The ambiance is quite beautiful and it is a great addition to our yard. It is pretty easy to assemble with two people. Of course, read your instructions and plan your assembly. It can be easy to confuse your pieces and the perspective in the diagrams so be careful. It took one day to assemble everything. There are a few extra hardware screws and washers included, which is great. You also might need a step ladder to hold up a key piece with a two person team to make it easier to bolt down. As I learned from another reviewer, order a can of matching stain free from Backyard Discovery for the inevitable touchups. I also had a couple of pieces with a chunk broken out or a smash, which were thankfully easy to get replaced and shipped out for free from Backyard Discovery. Also, I found it quite worth it to use a good exterior varnish to protect the pergola. I used the "M" name brand that ends in ""X" of their Spar Urethane Clear Gloss varnish (but make sure it is the oil based version if you use it, as the water based version is not good). Another reviewer said to varnish before assembly, which I realized rather fast that it takes forever, drips everywhere, sticks, creates skin, etc. So I varnished after assembly of all the lower sections except the numerous thin perlin slats that go on top, and got at least one coat on before the pergola spent too long in the sun and rain. I am going to finish two more spar urethane coats this season. Also, I ordered this pergola from Sam's club and it was easy to get service from BD afterwards. For those who might ask, is it worth it? I would say after staging everything around the pergola, such as potted plants and chairs for our yard, it is quite well worth the purchase. I think our photos prove that point. Btw, it did not really need the purlins installed to complete a good look and is perfectly functional without them. Also, we thought at first... would the dark walnut color work? And we soon realized, yes indeed. Enjoy!

We bought the Somerville 14 x 10 Pergola about a month ago as a complement to our recently installed brick paver patio and we absolutely love it. The design and size are perfect for our needs, providing just the right amount of sunlight filtering and shade during the brightest, sunny afternoons. Since we have a front porch with space for dining, we decided to make the patio a space for sectional lounging and we've spent countless days and evenings her ever since. The gray finish looks natural, the quality of the wood and the construction components are high, the assembly was straightforward (2 people over the length of an afternoon) and there were no issues with the shipping or delivery. The built in electrical outlets are a bonus. Highly recommended.

Only complaint is the directions need to be clearer about orientation of the pieces as we put together certain sections and realized after the fact that pre drilled holes were on other sides etc. also some of the wood was warped and made it difficult to align holes at time. But all in all we’re very happy and pleased with the pergola.

We purchased this pergola a year ago when we were in the middle of our backyard renovation. I'd dreamt of having this pergola in my yard for about ten years, and it's everything I'd hoped for! You definitely need multiple people to put it together, and I highly recommend getting footers poured so you can secure it. My husband had four friends come over for a "barn raising" of sorts, and that was super helpful. It's stood up to all kinds of weather, including some seriously high wind gusts. It's just gorgeous! We added market lights (that power box is super handy) and put down pavers below for a real oasis.

We purchase the Somerville 14 x 10 Pergola from Sam's Club last August. It took about 3 weeks to arrive, but it did come earlier than the expected time. The instructions were straight forward. I assembled this with the help of a friend. My wife did lend us a hand at some part during the assembly. We unboxed the pergola and did a quick parts check to make sure everything we needed was there. It took us one afternoon to put it together and we were able to finish before sunset. It has been a great addition to our backyard along with our turf install and pool and spa.

We purchased this pergola last summer. We are very pleased with the materials, the ease of construction and the beauty of this pergola. We’ve had several before and none of them were of this quality. The size was perfect for our deck. We added some polycarbonate sun panels for this summer season intense sun.

With the outlets included in the structure, we are able to have "movie nights" with a projector and laptop and adding a pull down movie screen. Perfect for our "all sun" backyard. Easy to put together but needs at least two people.

I ordered the Somerville 14 x 10 Pergola from Sams Club in January for a steal of a deal at $799. The only catch was I had to pick it up from the store. It was a bit of a bear to get it in the back of my truck, but I got it home safely. My FIL and I put it together a couple of weekends ago and so far I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I would have paid more and been happy, but with the price I paid the value cannot be beat. A couple of pieces of wood did get damaged during installation, but Backyard Discovery is replacing them for free along with providing some additional stain. I cannot say enough great things about their customer service. I called them on Monday and the replacement pieces are scheduled to arrive on Thursday. Holly and Chelsea were great! This company stands behind their products, so I would not hesitate recommending them to friends and family.

It is sturdy, comes with all the parts, does not have good assembly instruction, in fact, they are not useful at all. They give you a link to scan, you have to add an app to get it to work and it still is not much help. We went to Sam's and shot close up pictures and went from those. The wood is soft as cedar can be and there are several damaged areas from packing that we needed to touch up (paint stick or stain not included) The box wasn't damaged so it had to be during packing. Not all the holes line up so have a drill ready. They say it is a two person set up but that must be their guys with experience. The last steps are impossible for 2, even 4 people. After assembled you are supposed to lift it, put it in its mounting feet, draw around that, drill holes, set with screws and then lift it back in place. I believe the delivery guys said it weighed 900 lbs and it is at least that. IMPOSSIBLE for two people to lift. Ours isn't secure until; we can get a bunch of people to help. However, once assembled it is beautiful, sturdy and just like the pictures. It needs better instructions written and a video. I would buy another if we ever needed it now that we know how to assemble.

Our Pergola arrived in two long heavy boxes and contained all the wood, nuts, bolts and screws needed for assembly. There were a couple of minor places on the posts where the wood had split, but no other damage. We were able to hide the split wood against a wall. It took about 6 hours to put together with 2 people and we were feeling the pain by the end of it. The instructions were a little hard to follow and the pieces were not clearly marked, and that is the reason for only 4 stars. All in all, it is a beautiful piece when fully assembled.
