Hard ramp up, but after that a great unit !

First day I got it was really hard to get it working, 5 attempts or more every time I wanted to start the Inverter, the second day was a little bit easier. Its been in use for 4 days now, starting is no longer a problem, I can get it running every time at the first try. Don“t know if it was part of the break in period or what. Unit is super capable, I can run an electric grill and a Makita saw at the same time with no trouble. Fuel efficiency is great on econo mode. The only down to this product is the weight, You need two strong guys to load it into a pickup truck, if you are camping with the wife probably the generator will stay in the car 'cause its really heavy.

Unbelievably Quiet!

I bought this generator to run my Ice House/Camper. All of the 2000 units were not powerful enough to run my AC Unit. This unit has been great, I was able to run the AC, Refrigerator, TV, DVD, Lights, and Coffee maker all at the same time. The IQ3500 is also the quietest unit I have seen, it is as quiet as the 2000 watt units. Only thing I would like to see improved is the LCD display, on bright days it is a little hard to read and I would like it to stay on hours remaining. You have to scroll though all options each time. Either way not a big deal. Over all a great unit and I would highly recommend it.

Flawed Product

I purchased this unit 6 months ago from menards.com. Overall, this seems to be a good generator with the features necessary to support sensitive electronics and it is very quiet. However, it has some production flaws. The first thing I noticed is that the exhaust pipe does not line up with the grill that covers it. After a run of several hours, I'm guessing that the plastic grill will be melted where the exhaust pipe is pointing. The second thing I noticed is related to the maintenance of the unit. The oil drain for the unit does not actually exit the outside casing of the unit, leaving it up to your creativity how you are going to get the oil to drain out of the unit without making a mess on the inside of it. If someone has some suggestions to make this process clean and simple, I may increase the product rating slightly. So far a search of FAQs on Generac's website and a thorough search through the internet has not amounted to anything. The third thing I'll make note of is the quality. After just 6 months and 2 uses, the electric start on the unit no longer works.

Very Impressed

I don't like giving 5's but a 4 ("Good") didn't seem like enough. 4.5 is where I'd like to be. Let me start by saying I've never owned a generator, but we wanted one that could get us through an extended power outage and could be used to run a few power tools in a remote location. I probably didn't need a 3500 but I'm sick of going small and regretting not getting the bigger one, so I went with the iQ3500. First all the things I like. The generator looks great (I know that doesn't matter, but trust me, it does), and it feels like a tank. After I filled it with gas and oil, I went to start it. It's got an electric start but I wanted to see how the cord start felt. I pulled the cord out super slow to see how long the recoil would be and it started! Seriously, I barely pulled the cord and it started first try. The next thing I noticed is how crazy quiet it is! And when you put it on Eco mode, you could have it in the middle of a tailgate and people would tell you to turn own the music before they told you to turn off the generator. I used it to power up my table saw, drill, shop vac (not same time), which were no problem, and of course plugging in lots of low pull items like a radio, fan, etc. is nothing for this thing. Now the thing I don't like: I mentioned it is built like a tank....well, it's as heavy as one too. To call it portable is a stretch. My wife and I can move it around, but we wouldn't want to carry it too far. Either it needs to be made with wheels or some sort of cart should be an add-on. But that's the only bad thing I've found so far. Really impressed with this, and it's a U.S. company too!

Excellent and rugged generator

I researched many quiet generators, this one came in on top not only for being rugged, but for being American made. I spoke with many RV owners and discussed their generators and different brands that they used, this helped with me deciding on a Generac generator. I've had a much larger Generac portable generator for over 15 years and it's been absolutely solid and reliable, this little IQ generator is also well built and starts with no issues, sips fuel and is very quiet!

Don't be 'one of those guys' while camping

I bought this to use with our 26 ft. camper. Sites with hook-ups are becoming more difficult to get with the increase in post-pandemic campers. I wanted to have full use of my camper but didn't want to listen to (or have my neighbors listen to) a loud, open-frame generator. This generator is SO quiet. It is barely louder than ambient noise at the campground when sitting in our site, and is virtually in-audible by the time you are 50 ft away. Set up was super easy. Connect battery cables. Add oil and good gas (91 octane with zero ethanol is BEST.). Turn on and push start... It is very well built. None of the problems noted in other reviews. My only 'complaints' is the weight and the oil drain design. 100+ pounds seems heavy for a unit this size. But I knew the weight prior to buying it. The oil drain design could use some work. A 4" hose that would slip out through the bottom oil drain port would be a HUGE improvement.

Very pleased

Purchased through Amazon, arrived in a timely manner in perfect condition. Unpacked, added oil and ethanol-free gas, it started on the 2nd pull. Very satisfied with how quiet it is, will be using it with a small travel trailer. Let it run for 20 minutes with a light load, then shut down. A few hours later it started first pull and I connected to the trailer and started the A/C. The generator was only about 2 feet from the trailer and I couldn't hear it inside with the A/C running. Let it run for 30 minutes, then shut it down. So far, so good. Had to buy the adapter plug, no big deal.

Best overall but still lacks features

After extensive research I chose this for my RV as a dry camp accessory. It is the best value in inverter generators, but lacks one major feature. No wheels or handles, and there are none available as aftermarket add ons. Very cumbersome to manage without them, since it is quite heavy. Otherwise it has everything I wanted, and is reasonable quiet.

Customer Service and Warranty issues

I bought this generator after doing my research and wanted to get one with a great warranty and a company that would stand behind their product. I got neither. Long story short had an issue with the generator after initial break in process. Oil was coming out of the top end and most places where it shouldn’t be, I have it well documented. Took it in to certified retailer to get warranty work done and Generac refused to pay for a dime. I have had issues contacting their customer service reps and so on.

Darned Outages

We have been subject to power outages about once a month for hours on end-which pushed me to make power of my own. Here in the South in summertime it gets very humid and without air I have a hard time breathing-well no more. Fired right up on 2nd pull of the recoil and ran as it should right from the start. I installed a wall kit to transfer power indoors without exhaust and rain coming in from an extension cord thru the door. This unit will run a 12000BTU air/heat unit and also other electrical items at the same time without barely a complaint. If I had to rebuy I definitely would.
