If certain items always pick up a flavor, they're probably worn to the point of being porous and should be washed by hand. It might help to know that cast iron and plastic items can absorb flavors. If your dishes are older, or are made of a porous material, such as plastic, any dish washing product can leave a taste behind. Make sure you're using enough rinsing water.
