Big, Fluffy, Popcorn

I am astounded by the number of poor reviews. Orville Redenbacher’s is by far the best kernel popcorn available. First, I only make popcorn on the stove. I use 1/3 cup popcorn with 2-3 tablespoons of canola oil in a Theater II popcorn maker with a crank. There is rarely a single unpopped kernel. Every piece of popcorn is big, fluffy, and delicious. Even made with oil, the total number of calories is low. I can’t imagine why anyone would ever cook popcorn in a microwave or with an air popper. The flavor isn’t the same. In fact it’s not really there at all. So why bother. Cook the popcorn as designed with oil and follow the directions/recipe and then judge the taste and quality. Otherwise, you’re doing it wrong.

Superior Popcorn

We are on our third jug of this amazing popcorn! We use to buy bagged popcorn, but that was before trying the O.R. gourmet popcorn. 98% of the kernels pop! The taste is delicious & like the popcorn we remember growing up with. The price is awesome considering what just 8oz. costs in the grocery store. This is going to be a regular purchase for us! :)

Poor Performance Popping & Chomping

Looked for popping corn in the store & only found OR, sprang for what used to be excellent. What a disappointment! Not only did only half the kernels pop even the ones that did were rubbery and not crisp. Was like chewing on rubber pieces, just squeeze down on your teeth and have to swallow whole. Lidel no name popcorn is far superior, cost much less. Finally paid more for less with OR popcorn

Poorly packaged- Pop Corn smells fishy

Inside the box that arrived were two containers of popping corn and a bottle of honey. One popping corn container arrived broken, with kernels loose inside the box. The shipping box was far too big for the three items, and I'm glad the honey survived the trip! Made a batch of the pop corn and it smelled fishy!!! I usually purchase organic Amish popping corn that smells like fresh corn when popped. I suspect the fishy smell is from chemicals. GMO doesn't necessarily equal 'safe'. I'm glad Sam's Club will refund this popping corn purchase.

It's not just O.R. kernels

I've always bought no-name kernels but about 6-8 months ago I started experiencing the same 50% popped/hard stuff the same as you are describing with O.R. kernels. It's got to be more than just a bad batch. ALL kernel brands seem to have the same issue lately. I do not know why.

Worst Popcorn Kernels, smushy and hulls

I have an old popper and never had an issue with other brands. Purchased a bottle of this, I thought maybe it is not meant for popper. In the popper it spit out a glob unpopped after a few seconds (same happened when I went to tell my husband about it). Then I popped on the stove, and it comes out not crunchy at all, almost like stale popcorn. The hulls are horrible!!! Even when in popper it spits out hulls all over the place. Do not recommend to anyone. Wish I could get money back.

Great Popcorn!!!

This popcorn if flavorful and good for you. I have been dropping my weight a bit by eating a hand full with my meals. It helps me get full and I love the flavor. I try to use canola oil or coconut oil and just eat moderate amounts. Popcorn is always an enjoyable option when company is over and we are watching or doing group activities. For those of you who are having trouble getting your popcorn to come out well, the best way to go is to get a quality popcorn popper. They get hot enough to do a good job and are easy to use. There are lots of good ones out there. The one I am using right now is the Presto Model 520001. It has two small spatula stirring wires in the bottom of it to keep from burning the popcorn and it really gets hot enough to pop well. I usually pop 3/4 cup of kernels at a time and I leave the lid off of it for the first three minutes of heating so that the moisture cooking out of the popcorn escapes into the air. When the first kernel pops, I quickly place the lid on it and it pops away! This keeps my popcorn from being moist and I like it dry and crisp. After I enjoy a reasonable helping of popcorn, I allow the popcorn to fully cool - letting the warm air in the popcorn rise away, carrying the moisture with it and this allows me to bag up the remaining popcorn that is cool and dry - so I can enjoy it later. I use a bread bag to put it in and it keeps it fresh for all week (If we do not eat it all). If you can catch the cheap macaroni and cheese on sale, use the dry cheese powder as a great popcorn topping, but watch the "best by" date, as it looses its flavor when it gets old. I mostly eat it with just a little bit of salt on it as it has such good natural flavor. Good Luck you guys and Happy Popping!!!

Taste great, healthy and easy to make in the micro

I got a microwave popcorn maker bowl as a gift from a friend. I use less than a tablespoon of oil, then I put about 3 tablespoons of popcorn and mix it so that the kernels are covered. Then I microwave it for almost 3 minutes using the popcorn button. I wait for the popping to slow; so that tells me when it's ready, so I don't burn the popcorn. After, I spirnkle with a bit of himalayan pink salt if I want to. Healthy snack. Taste great to me. I think popping on the stove is always messy; and people usually tend to get tough kernels. Whoever reads this, try a microwave bowl popcorn maker. Any kernel I've tried even from a different brand comes out pretty tough on the stove top. I don't think it's the brand. This is my go-to popcorn.

What happened to the quality?

I bought one bottle of kernels about a month ago . Only about 1/3 of the kernals popped. Thinking it was a one off, I threw out the bottle and bought another. This bottle is the same. I tied the olair popper, the microwave and the stove top. Same result. There is definitely a quality issue based on other recent reviews.

Huge Disappointment

I have always loved Orville popcorn and have enjoyed it for many years, however, the last few times I puchased this product I have almost busted my teeth on unpopped kernels. There are also a ton left at the bottom of my bowl. Not sure if something has changed but I think I might have to try another brand. Very disappointing to say the least!
