It is not easy for a 6 year old to close the lid. You have to play around with it to close.

The way the lunch box is designed with the compartment that holds the food coming out of the "shell" to be cleaned just does not work.  Any kind of food that is not solid gets everywhere.  Would not recommend for any type of travel.
