Flimsy

I’ve had several racks of this type. The rails and posts are too thin for this type of rack. The shelving is wire that can be bent like a coat hanger. In fact, I had to use a rubber nallet to bend it back in shape. There is no bolting used in this rack. If there was bolting it would make it sturdier. I’m going to have to add bolting and wood shelves to make it reliable fir long term. Very poor product! Of course, you know who made it, so why am I surprised!

Poor Construction

I have purchased several of these shelves in the past; however, the current one that I recently purchased is not near the quality of the previous ones. The metal is thinner and the construction is out of line on the top of the end units. It was nearly impossible to get the top shelf rails to attach. Only after laying the assembled parts on its side on the concrete floor was I able to use a dead blow hammer to beat the attachment points into the slots while using a pry bar to align the tabs. Worst jigsaw puzzle ever!

Great Value but would not trust 10,000 pounds

This 2500 pound per shelf unit is a very good deal for the money but I would not trust that much weight based on the thin gauge of steel and lack of diagonal braces on the backside and the sides. But I would buy it again for the value and the use I will give it. Make no mistake, this unit will be supporting 1000's of pounds....but good luck on 10,000 :) Each rail has 2 bolt holes on the ends(they are unused).......convenient for making the unit a bit "sturdier" so I drilled them out to about 5/16" and used 32 bolts and nuts to brace it up. The vertical metal pegs used for the shelving bracing they rattle a lot so I glued the head of the peg in place. The stout wire mesh is soon to be replaced with plywood. The 2.5"x2.5" square feet are a bit of a joke....they are tack welded in 3 spots and with 6" caster wheels to be welded in place those square feet had to go. The u-channel vertical framework is rather thin but it welded nicely to the caster wheel structure. The black winkle paint was a nice touch. The unit assembled perfectly. No instructions needed. It's so well thought out for simplicity. I thought long and hard if it was a 4 star or a 5 star. I know some people take stars off for silly things and that's not me. I give it 5 stars because I cannot get this awesome of a shelving unit that is 6 foot wide and 22.5" deep. I modded it a little for my own purposes and as long as 10,000 pounds is not put on it I say it's a 5 star!

Sturdy and easy to assemble

These are sturdy and easy to assemble IF they don't get bent during shipping. I bought 2 of these. The first one took FOREVER to assemble because it was bent "out of square" just a little bit so I had to use a rubber mallet to get the railing in and then it was a nightmare to get the crossbars lined up so the pins would fit in. The 2nd unit went together like a breeze in 15 minutes by myself. I need something to fit in the holes (notated in photo with a red arrow) to be able to hang stuff if anyone has found something. Overall these are AWESOME shelves

Outstanding shelves

These are over $100 less expensive than what the big box home improvement stores offer for the exact same size yet they are superior in many ways. They are rated to hold more weight. They are virtually impossible to put together wrong. The build quality is excellent so they are super easy to assemble in about 5 mins. IMO, they look better. The only thing I would do differently is slightly heavier gauge wire for the shelves.

Damaged, to much work to find usable unit, Damaged

Purchased and returned the same day (due to damage) , and purchased another same day and got it home . It too was damaged. Both boxes had VERY minimal exterior box damage. Metal is very thin. Surprised that 3099 people received undamaged units when I received 2 in a row damaged. The packaging quality is poor at least, any mishap in handling from overseas will damage product and possibly allow an unsafe storage rack rated for 10,000 lbs.

Looks can be deceiving

I thought I was getting a heavy duty shelf, especially since it’s costly, but it feels so flimsy. Some of the slats didn’t lock into place, even after using the mallet. Although the set up took about 20 mins, I was disappointed. Even the wire racks are flimsy and don’t lock into place, they just move around. The last shelf that we purchased for $100 less was more sturdy that this, and was heavier. I don’t know why that one is out of stock and have been for weeks with none being added any time soon, but this big, expensive, illusion is plentiful. Had the box not been collected for recycling, I would have returned it and just waited or shopped somewhere else.

Sturdy, easy to setup and looks nice.

I use these for my business warehouse and in my home garage. I have purchased 23 of these units; which are working perfectly for heavy items. I would suggest adding plywood to the tops if you're going to be storing smaller items; the shelves are a wired grate. I would love the ability to purchase extra shelves... get on it Sam's! Lastly, the older units are grey and the newer units are a textured black metal. Same sturdiness, just different coating on the metal. If you're on the fence about getting these, you won't regret it. Blows other shelving units out of the water in price and durability.

Good value

Rack is sturdy and well built. Pretty simple to put together and has hardware to attach to the wall for safety. Only negative was the box was pretty flimsy and tore up from shipping once it got to me. But it's steel, so it's not like it was going to be easy to damage...

Bad Manufacturing

This was a nightmare to assemble due to manufacturing defects. One of the four corner pieces was twisted so badly it took over 30 minutes to bend and jury rig it so that the cross bar would slip into the anchoring holes, resulting in the powder coat being damaged so badly that the shelf looks like cheap crap. Fortunately it is in the garage so cosmetic appeal isn't terribly important, but it's extremely annoying. If it was not so heavy (we had it delivered) I would have returned it, but as it is, we'll live with it and never purchase something like this again from Sams Club.
