I ordered this to use with my Vulcan 22' Type 1A Multi Task Ladder, and it works great. Little Giant has an 8-minute YouTube video online demonstrating how to use their ladders and the Little Giant Work Platform that is well worth watching if you are considering buying one.
One of the best features of the platform is that it can be used to stand on. The platform is extremely sturdy and very comfortable as compared to standing on narrow ladder rungs for long periods of time. You can stand on the platform and face the ladder while you work, or you can turn 90 degrees and work to either side of the ladder while standing on the platform. It is important to note that it can ONLY be used as a standing platform when the ladder is in the A-Frame (step ladder) position.
A second handy use is that the work platform can also be used as a tray for holding tools and/or paint containers on ANY STEP. Again, this is ONLY when the ladder is in the A-Frame (step ladder) position.
Even though the directions don't mention it, I found that the platform can also be used as a tool/paint tray on the TOP STEP of mine when the ladder is in what they call the 90-degree position. It CANNOT be used as a tool/paint tray or standing platform on lower steps in the 90-degree position.
The work platform has a third use. It has small metal ears that come into play when a multi-task ladder is used as two scaffolding bases. One scaffold base locks into position automatically, but the other does not. This is true for Vulcan, Werner and Little Giant multi-task ladders. The platform is designed to lock the second base into position if you use it as a scaffold base. This is demonstrated in the YouTube video.
The platform CANNOT be used for any purpose when the ladder is in the extension ladder position.
Little Giant has designed the work platform to be stored hanging in between the legs of the ladder from a rung when the ladder is in the storage position. That way, the platform doesn't take up additional room in your workshop or garage and is always handy. I store my ladder horizontal to the floor on hooks, and the work platform remains securely in place even when the ladder is turned on its side.
The work platform itself is rated at 375 pounds. However, it is your ladder type that actually determines how much the platform can hold. For example, a Type 1AA ladder is rated at 375 pounds. That means the platform can hold 375 pounds when used on a Type 1AA ladder. A Type 1A ladder is rated at 300 pounds. Even though the platform itself is rated Type 1AA, the weight limit would be 300 pounds when used on this type of ladder. Similarly, if your ladder is rated at 250 pounds, you can only put 250 pounds on the platform.
The Little Giant Work Platform is extremely solid and very easy to install. Probably for legal and financial reasons, they recommend using it only with Little Giant ladders. It fits and works perfectly on my Vulcan multi-task ladder, and I like it so much that I am going to get one for my brother who has a 22' Werner Type 1A Multi-Task Ladder.
Its versatility and high quality construction make the Little Giant Work Platform a must-have accessory for multi-task ladders. My only complaint is that it is rather expensive.
