Aphids!!!

Bought this item and transplanted my baby tomato plants into it in fresh, clean peat pots, never been used, within 3 weeks I was INFESTED with Aphids! Poor little plants are dying. There are no other plants around them that could have caused it. They were alone under a gro light that is several inches above them.

We are sorry to hear about the condition of your tomato plants. Aphids are soft-bodied insects that suck the sap from the tender new growth of plants. A tell tale sign of aphids is the honeydew that they secret. Control quickly is the key to saving your plants. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. Infested with Insect Eggs

I ordered 8 of these for a raised garden bed. After pouring the soil into the bed, I found hundreds of yellowish-white eggs in the soil of different size which popped when you squeezed them. Research online have revealed these are fungus gnat eggs. I've ordered Black and Gold soil from Walmart in bulk and never had this problem. I've now spent over $100 (more than the cost of the soil) buying products to kill the gnats, which will eat and kill your plants from the root up. I will try to return the soil that I did not put into the bed. I'm sure that will be a treat, moving extremely heavy bags and packaging them up for return. Never again. I had to remove all of my plants from the soil and put back in previous containers while I am trying to sort out this mess.

UrbanGardener, we're sorry to hear about your experience. The larva of fungus gnats feed on fungus that naturally grows in potting soils. They look like tiny white, grubs or maggots, while the adults look similar to fruit flies. Neither the larva or the adults feed on plants. What you've described as insect eggs is actually the fertilizer found in the soil. The Osmocote plant food found in the soil is a small, yellow, green or clear fluid-filled beads. The beads breakdown overtime releasing the plant food. When the soil is used outdoors, fungus gnats are not typically a problem. We do offer a product guarantee and will be happy to help you if you were not able to return the bags to the store. Please contact us by using the following link http://tinyurl.com/noc5mcg

ruined my container garden

I have ten containers/boxes that I filled with this stuff and can't keep the stuff moist. I thought perhaps it was the heat and since it has cooled down considerably and I've had to rake the top of the potting mix because it hard pans, I still can't get it to stay moist. This is really bad. Here I am and it's almost winter and the stupid soil still can't retain moisture. And on top of that, I've got gnats everywhere. Don't know what kind but my plants are doing horribly and I don't know if it's because of those bugs or because of the moisture problem. I won't every buy it again. This and their Organic Mix that I tried after this are both horrible.

Really Good Potting Mix

I purchased this potting mix for my fairy garden and didn't want a lot of twigs and other stuff that I have found in some potting mixes. It was perfect for the tiny plants I planted in the garden and they are thriving very nicely. The accessories sit nice and even on top of the mix. It was nice not having to pull twigs out of this mix. I would buy this potting mix again.

Go get Kelloggs Organic

This is the first time I've used this product in 10, almost 11 years. I now remember why I quit using this product. It lacks packing ability, and within 2 weeks your plants will shift all over as this cheap fluff doesn't pack in the plants into place. I switched to Kelloggs Organic dirt ($10 @ Home Depot) because of the Organic reasons. But it's way better. I'm about to dig up everything I planted using this crappy dirt, and replant with Kelloggs. I don't recommend any Miracle Grow at all. The Garden soil of Miracle Grow was moldy and I became very ill following using it. I TOTALLY DON'T RECOMMEND THAT PRODUCT EITHER. Both purchased at Sam's. I will not make that same mistake, and with this review...I hope I save you from my same mistakes and illness of a Mold Cold upper respiratory infection.

Upset at pricing

I love Miracle Gro products. This potting soil is great. I planted a perennial and it has already doubled in size. The only thing that is not great is that the bag of soil was in front of a label that stated $5.00; however, when I checked out it rang up 12.97! This is happening more and more at Walmart. It is very frustrating to think you are getting a deal to only be disappointed and pay full price.

Holds moisture too well

My best suggestion is to not use this particular soil for potted plants and this has already been well documented on numerous websites. Every single potted plant I've used this soil on, has ended up dying from root rot. This is because the soil becomes so compacted and it doesn't allow for very good drainage. Therefore, the soil ends up holding the moisture for too long a period of time. The roots can't breath in any oxygen and the plant basically ends up drowning in all the excess water.

BUYER BEWARE!!

BUYER BEWARE!! I ordered twelve of these. The product I received was NOT the product pictured and described here. The item shown and described is Miracle-Gro MOISTURE CONTROL potting mix. What I received was Miracle-Gro Potting Mix. It was NOT Moisture Control potting mix. It is a cheaper potting mix than what I ordered.

Too wet or too dry. Compacts TOO much too quickly

I got two of the 2 cubic foot bags. I have miracle gro shake n feed plant food, indoor plant liquid food, water soluble plant food, orchid spikes, and seed starting mix. The soil is the only one that I can really say if it works or not, however I'm not very impressed with the orchid spike either. I've seen no improvement in the health of my orchid. In the case of this potting soil, I'm not really happy with it because it just gets so compacted so quickly. The roots of my plants keep getting exposed because the soil just compacts down so much so quickly. It's either too wet or too dry. From the same bag of soil, some of my pots either stay too wet or are just bone dry.

We're sorry to hear of the gnats in the Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix.

Insects can not survive the composting and packaging process, but can enter the bags during shipping or storage. When dealing with fungus gnats we recommend allowing the soil to dry out between watering. Dry soil can help kill the larvae.

We want you to be confident in our products.
