When it dries out, it forms hard clumps. If the product is stored in high heat or humidity or gets rained on, this can happen. Another possible cause is the product being stored on a concrete or cement floor or leaning against a wall made of either material. Concrete/cement draws moisture and can increase the chance of moisture getting in the bag. When purchasing the product in person, be sure to inspect the bags for signs of rips or other damage. When soils dry out, they become naturally water repellent due to the peat moss and organic matter that are an important part of the soil mixture. If growing media/in-ground soil is dry upon opening the bag, we suggest emptying what is needed into a plastic bucket or tub and slowly stir in a small amount of water. Wear garden gloves and/or use a garden tool to work the soil and water together thoroughly until moistened. Do not add too much water at once or the mix will be too wet as the soil should be damp like a squeezed out sponge.We want you to be confident in our products.
