Not worth your money!!
After reading all the reviews I now know I'm not mistaken in thinking Miracle Gro is selling inferior products!! I couldn't figure out why the vegetables I planted last year didn't produce a thing. There are lots of wood pieces and really hard clumps that are not suitable for growing plants in. I spent a lot of money on plants and even more on the supposedly wonderful Miracle Gro and was extremely disappointed. I will never waste my money on their products again!!!
Redish worthless bark!
I have to give a neutral review because of last years purchase. Like others I have always been very pleased with the Miracle-Gro potting soil. But last year it was nothing but tree bark shredded in a bag. Wasn't even the black color I have come to love over the years. I have just bought 3 bags to determine whether or not I will continue to use this product. One other thing is I noticed they dropped their bags from 2 1/2 cu. ft. down to 2 1/4 cu. ft.. I will give a review later on my findings.

Not worth the risk.
Not sterile, ruined 7 plants. First started with gnats and weeds growing. I got those under control with neem then started seeing soil mites. Within 2wks all my plants in one location were completely overrun with soil mites. Crawling all over the pot and countertop. I tried for 3 months to correct the issue and I tried EVERYTHING. Not very happy and I'll never try miracle gro mix again. Not worth the risk. Apparently soil mites are beneficial but there was hundreds, thousands probably and I can't live knowing there are so many in my bedroom. Yuck. Several of the plants I've had for years, never seen anything like this infestation.

Not the same
I purchased a large bag of Miracle Gro potting soil in early spring and just started using it. It is horrible. Cannot get the stuff moist. And it has a lot of bark chunks in it. What has happened to Miracle Gro, it was always the best but not anymore.
We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix and appreciate your feedback.Soils and soil amendment products may dry out too much in shipping or storage. When our soils dry out they become naturally water repellent due to the peat moss and organic matter that are an important part of the soil mixture. If growing media/in-ground soil is dry upon opening the bag we suggest the following steps:-Empty what is needed into a plastic bucket or tub-Slowly stir in a small amount of water-Wearing garden gloves and/or using a garden tool to work the soil and water together thoroughly until moistened-Do not add too much water at once or the mix will be too wet-Soil should be damp like a squeezed out sponge-Since overly dry soils can be dusty and messy it is best to mix the product outsideWhile small pieces of bark and twigs are intentional components of our growing media, you should not find large pieces of wood or bark. Most of our soils especially Potting mixes and garden soils are made of composted forest products and contain very little if any actual soil. Composted forest products provide high organic content and nutrients without the concern for soil compaction which often occurs with potting mixes composed primarily of actual topsoil. The coarser material allows for air to reach the roots of the plant which improves plant performance for years. Professional growers have used potting media with a significant amount of bark pieces because it is a superior growing media for potted plants. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 877-220-3089 if we can further assist.
Go get Kelloggs Organic
This is the first time I've used this product in 10, almost 11 years. I now remember why I quit using this product. It lacks packing ability, and within 2 weeks your plants will shift all over as this cheap fluff doesn't pack in the plants into place. I switched to Kelloggs Organic dirt ($10 @ Home Depot) because of the Organic reasons. But it's way better. I'm about to dig up everything I planted using this crappy dirt, and replant with Kelloggs. I don't recommend any Miracle Grow at all. The Garden soil of Miracle Grow was moldy and I became very ill following using it. I TOTALLY DON'T RECOMMEND THAT PRODUCT EITHER. Both purchased at Sam's. I will not make that same mistake, and with this review...I hope I save you from my same mistakes and illness of a Mold Cold upper respiratory infection.

Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix
Purchased this product because the price was reduced at the end of the traditional planting season here. Would not have purchased it, if the price was not reduced. Personal cost of living is up 65% with current government. This translates to prices being the prime driver in making all purchases. Have no experience with this product but its claim to protect against over %26 under watering would be appropriate with the weather here.
best potting soil ever,but.......
we use this dirt every year to pot plants, repot old plants. best ever used. but WHY is it out of stock before June the 1st, with no hopes of getting any back until next year. lots of folks still potting seed and plants, but alas no soil. come Sam's keep more in stock longer into the summer, spring just got done.
ruined my container garden
I have ten containers/boxes that I filled with this stuff and can't keep the stuff moist. I thought perhaps it was the heat and since it has cooled down considerably and I've had to rake the top of the potting mix because it hard pans, I still can't get it to stay moist. This is really bad. Here I am and it's almost winter and the stupid soil still can't retain moisture. And on top of that, I've got gnats everywhere. Don't know what kind but my plants are doing horribly and I don't know if it's because of those bugs or because of the moisture problem. I won't every buy it again. This and their Organic Mix that I tried after this are both horrible.
Aphids!!!
Bought this item and transplanted my baby tomato plants into it in fresh, clean peat pots, never been used, within 3 weeks I was INFESTED with Aphids! Poor little plants are dying. There are no other plants around them that could have caused it. They were alone under a gro light that is several inches above them.
We are sorry to hear about the condition of your tomato plants. Aphids are soft-bodied insects that suck the sap from the tender new growth of plants. A tell tale sign of aphids is the honeydew that they secret. Control quickly is the key to saving your plants. We want you to be confident in our products. Use only if you want gnat infestation
According to many online reviews, I'm not the first to have bad experiences with this product! Weeks after transplanting my seedlings, the fungus gnats hatched and invaded my home. The website for this product states that the soil is NOT sterilized and if you have a gnat problem you need to make a further purchase of sand to cover your soil. Supposedly this gets rid of the gnats. I've had this problem with EVERY bag I have purchased over the last few years. I have continued to buy because I was hoping it wouldn't be EVERY bag, but now I'm tired of wasting my money. Scott's continues to make all sorts of excuses why this mixture is full of wood mulch, smells like a landfill and is infested, yet there are other products whose mix does not do these things. Save your money and buy a different brand!
