I spent a lot of time doing homework on generators and I am so glad I did. This generator is practically turnkey and is easy enough for someone like me to figure out. It's a great generator and I'm glad that I picked this one because the price of it is great as well. It's worth it to do your homework there's a lot of generators out there, this Westinghouse 9500 DEF is a winner!

My first impression was how substantial the construction is. The wheels are much larger and more heavy duty than I had expected. Since it will be parked in my barn, 200' from my home, this was a major concern. Even though this is a larger (heavier) portable generator, moving it around will be a breeze.

The "set-up" to get the generator going is rather simple. The electrician walked me through the steps for operations, which paralleled the owners' manual. So far, I have had one test run which went smoothly, running all that we would need during a power outage. I read many reviews and at this juncture I would agree and am glad for this purchase.

Pros: * Easy setup and works as advertised * Transfer from propane use to gas is easy * fuel gauge up top can let you know approximately how much gas is left in the tank * wheels and lift handle are great to move the generator out before powering it on * build quality seems solid Cons: * really noisy (which is to be expected which a 12kW unit). We powered it down at night otherwise it'd be a nuisance * Some parts came loose during first operation. I'm guessing some fittings weren't tight enough and the vibration got them loose: the two feet (opposite of the wheels) as well as the cover to the air filter. **make sure you tighten everything before first operation** * plastic housing of battery arrived broken. It isn't well protected for shipping I guess. This doesn't effect operation much... Overall, very satisfied with this generator and we're using it to power the whole house: well pump and filtration, fridge, some lights, gas appliances (sparkers for house furnace, water heater, stovetops), lights, and other appliances.

Wish I had this generator when the derecho hit us in Iowa in August. Looked for everything my old one was lacking and this one fit the bill. Just as quiet as my old 3500, and will run my whole house. Easy assembly, started right up. I'll be ready for the next derecho.

Bought during a huge snow storm I knew my old generator was on its last legs arrived just in time the old one gave out completely ran my whole house for the remainder of power outage that lasted 14 days. Have 52 hours now first 2 oil changes done 25hr and 50 for break in. Get yourself a gallon of a good 10 /30 oil takes a little more than a quart per oil change but I know a guy who ran the first 100 hrs no oil change and his is doing just fine but deffinatly change your oil don't be that guy. Have no used propane yet but nice as a back up source make sure you follow the manual and you will be just fine.

Bought brand new and would only run off propane. Had to contact Westinghouse and go through a few steps. They emailed me and provided me with a service location to drop it off at for it to be diagnosed and repaired. Not really what I was hoping for and sure worries me now on the reliability of this generator. Also wasn't excited about having to load up a 250lb generator and drive it in to town to leave it for “at least two weeks”, according to the service center.

4 stars since I've only assembled it and did the initial start up. Will upgrade as required once I get some run time. Great features (battery tender and electric start, remote control), as well as the ability to run regular outlets, or feed via 30 amp or 50 amp cord.

This is the second one I have purchased and I can tell it is made in the US. I called support since I had a faulty propane hose on the first one. Not only did I get a real person to talk to right away, but they immediately sent out a new one. That's American service like I got years ago. Thank you Westinghouse.

I wanted to be prepared for our next outage so I needed a generator I could depend on. I am one that does a lot of research before I buy anything. I found this one and I watched a lot of videos, read reviews and articles. We broke it in and it runs amazing! I got the 9500df. I love the remote. Instructions are very understanding so I believe I am ready for next outage. I made a good decision on this. Thank you Westinghouse!!
