Composter to the World

Just as described. Turning mechanism works well as long as you don’t fill it all the way. It becomes heavier and therefore harder to turn. And make sure you close the lid tightly before turning!

So Easy

It's easy to unpack, easy to load, and easy to turn. I used to use two black trash cans. Dumping the compost from one to another was really messy. This will be so much easier.

Good Investment

Bought this to use with my raised garden. I also noticed I threw away a lot of vegetable peels and fruit peels and thought having the composter would be a great way to make my own top soil and keep some of my scraps and cardboard out of landfills. It came preassembled...so I pulled it out of the box and put it outside. I saved big bags of kitchen scraps and torn up cardboard and shredded paper and over a few weeks filled the bin with the material. My 2 young daughters love giving the composter a spin every couple of days. My youngest is 4 and is able to rotate the composter. I do not have top soil yet because I first batch is still "cooking" but so far I am very satisfied with the composter. It is easy to use, it is compact, not an eyesore on my patio, and I am excited about using kitchen scraps to feed my little garden.

Pretty cool so far!

Super easy to set up, you literally just take it out of the box and plop the barrel onto base. Remember, 2 part brown to 1 part green! I add a tad bit of water weekly and spin it weekly. Manual said to spin daily when you add stuff, but im pretty new to composting in a bin, so i dont do it every day. I did notice that there is a small leak where the plastic seams meet, but nothing i cant caulk.

Threaded lid; handholds collect rainwater

We like it. We are glad we have it. It feels roomy. GLITCHES: It takes 3 hands to operate. When there's a little snow on the ground, you end up setting your bucket of veggie scraps in the snow while you use 2 hands to unscrew the lid. COMPARISON of this "new" bin to our previous "old" rotating compost bin: The OLD compost bin had a lid on a hinge, so you could unlatch the lid with one hand, flip the lid open with one hand, and the lid remained attached and you could hold your bucket of veggie scraps in the other hand. The NEW compost bin one has a relatively large, threaded lid that: - takes 2 hands to unscrew (forcing one to set the bucket of veggie scraps in the snow way down there on the ground) - requires a place to set the lid down (this is where I complain again about the snow on the ground, not to mention the ground "becoming farther away as I age"), - requires a somewhat careful screwing action with 2 hands to properly thread the lid back into place (instead of the just flipping the hinged lid back into place with one hand with the OLD bin) - The OLD compost bin had small depressions and also horizontal ridges that were a little difficult to grasp when you needed to rotate the bin - The NEW compost big has 2 sets of large rectangular depressions to provide a good handhold to rotate the bin. As long as you are careful to leave the lid facing up, this is fine. When I left one of the 2 sets of handholds facing in the direction of our recent driving rain, I rotated the bin and the cupful of water that had collected in the second set of handholds gave my lower body an unexpected shower.

composting

Instructions are not adequate, but I like the design idea Never fill barrel more than half full When turning the barrel, always leave door up when finished turning. Difficult to remove finished compost. When door is positioned towards the ground, weight of compost inside rips screws the secure the door. Capacity is too small even for vegetable waste from single person. Design needs internal baffles to help toss the compost materials as you turn the barre.

Compost Wizard Jr.

Absolutely ideal and convenient composter. Product works as described. Our only complaint is that the bolts/nuts that keep the wheels attached on the base have come loose and fallen off a few times. It takes no time to reattach but may be a little more challenging when the barrel is full.

Awesome little composter

This simple little composter is so easy to work with. It comes ready to use. Just set the barrel on the platform and start filling it up. It is perfect for me, a single person with kitchen scraps and shredded paper from a small shredder. I also have pine trees and always rake the pine needles up around the tree trunks. Beneath all those pine needles is good soil already beginning to compost. Add that to the composter and it shouldn't take long at all to have come wonderful compost. There are 2 things that I would improve on if I could and that is the fact that the composter sits on the ground and is hard to get to. I fixed that by sitting it up on a wooden table so I wan work with it easier. The 2nd thing is the indentions where you grasp the barrel to turn it. First, the indention is not deep enough especially if you have any length to your fingernails at all. Also when it rains be careful when you turn the barrel towards you. When you turn it hard and fast you will wear the rain water that has collected in the base wheels. I'm just sayin'. Overall I love this composter. It is very close to perfect.

Can't grade properly until I've used it a few week

Received the composter as ordered, in a timely manner. All of its parts were included in the box. It took minimal time to set up once a location was decided upon. It's not a distraction to the yard as far as looks go, it's not a pretty thing but is not displeasing to the eye and it serves a greatly needed function..

Perfect composter

This is the best composter I've owned. Almost nothing can break on this design. I've owned 2 other Wizard Jr. for several years and needed an additional one. Love that's it's made out of 100% recycled materials. Turns well even after years of use. I find it a bit difficult to turn when it's full. Rodent proof too!
