The lids snap on securely and aren't so big that you can't pack them full and still be able to lift them on and off of your highest shelf. Personally I use one each year to keep all of my receipts, important papers and tax documents. Then I go through them at the end of the year and only keep what I need, do my taxes, label the bin with the year, and stack it with the previous years' documents. These are perfect for my system.

These boxes do not have them! they click shut easily and stay closed. I also find that they are nice and sturdy.
