Raised Letters turned brown

As of January 2016, I'm on my third set of BF Goodrich T/A's, 255/60/15. that are on a car that I show and not drive that much. The first set set were on 10 years and were great, the letters stayed white, rarely needed cleaning. The next set was put on almost immediately the letters started turning brown. I went back to the dealer, who was great to work with me and they replaced the tires. Well, the second set is no better, in fact worse and seems the more time that passes the worse they get. This is a car that stays in garage and driven to shows and cruising on weekends only, so they are not abused. I have tried every cleaning process possible and nothing works. I am so frustrated that I am ready to foot the expense to purchase another brand. I read so many post where people have the same problem. Seems to be a chemical issue.

Quality

I have hard spots and out of round issues with my tires. I need to replace and not sure if I should replace with these tires or go with another brand. I just talked to friend of mine and he had three bad TA over the last year and a half. Any recommendations

RWL should be RBL! Who wants Raised Brown Letter tires?

BF Goodrich has always been one of my favorite tire brands, but I guess all good things must come to an end. I purchased a new set of BFG Radial T/As for my '77 Trans Am, and even when they were first installed the letters didn't seem to look quite white. I ignored it thinking they just need a good cleaning. I cleaned them and got them looking a little whiter, and then put the car into storage. However, the next time I got the car out the letters were noticeably dingy and looked brown. As first I thought maybe it was just my eyes, or maybe I wasn't using the right product on the tires. I finally took the car to have it professionally detailed, and even they couldn't make the letters look white! Then I did a Google search and found that many other people were having the exact same issue. I took the car back to where I purchased the tires and they told me some mumbo jumbo about how this is supposed to be normal. Normal?! I know what white looks like. I also know that the letters on all the BFGs I purchased in previous years had white letters, NOT BROWN!!! They offered me 30% off a replacement set. I have less than 1000 miles on the tires I already purchased. Thanks, but no thanks. I take my money and purchase a different brand. They may not be as iconic as BFGs, but at least the letters will be white the way they're supposed to be!

White letters are still not white

I just bought new T/A Radials to replace my 10 year old ones and disappointed in the lettering. One is kind of white, another is just a brown, tar color that doesn't come clean. In the past, the came with that blue coating that protected them until you washed them off with soapy water. Now, no such luck. Tire is still good, just have to run the black side out.

Great performance, look and price!

I always run these tires on my 68 RS/SS Camaro they’re great looking and performing. Also the only manufacturer who makes a 245/60/14. And all the people giving the tire poor rating over letter coloring a alone need to grow up and understand they fixed the issue and wasn’t even there fault and they are offering to make it right with discounts and or replacements. They make tire paint for couple bucks and a few minutes you can paint the letters white.

Excellant Tire

Have used the (P245s, P255s and P275s) /60r15 series tires on cars for many years. These size tires fit the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s great. The traction and handling are great. No one else comes close in a tire for great street driving and cruising. True for ultimate traction there are others out there but when you consider street driving these tires are Excellent.

Raised Brown Letters? What’s goin on here?

I am in the market for some new shows on my 1970 Chevelle SS Convertible. I was seconds away from pulling the trigger thru Summit Racing. After ready no these posts about brown letters, I think I will look at other tire suppliers. Thanks for the heads up everyone!

White Letters are Brown

Since the purchase of the tires they have been on the road somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 miles. The white lettering is brown. Every time I scrub them they look a little better but the browning returns quickly. Since they are on a classic vehicle we would like them to look as they should.

2156014 Radial T/A

The brown letters was caused by my old metal ramps from changing the oil....The tires were too wide & rubbing. Very easy to clean. Use your regular kitchen dish scrubbie thinge....they say to use a brown 3M pad but the blue ones work great with some sort of cleaner...I use windex, clean them, then rinse. Problem solved.

Great for full sized cars

I have a 91 Chevy Caprice that came with a new set of these tires when I bought it. Over 40k miles of daily driving in all types of weather later, they still have plenty of tread left. They have also been wearing quite well despite my not keeping up with rotating the tires. Even in rain and snow the traction and handling have been excelent. When its time for new tires I will defently put another set of these on the Caprice.
