Shipping was surprisingly fast. (1 week from purchase to delivery) Assembly was relatively easy. I put it together myself, with a little help from my wife and son when it came to installing the main joist beams. Finished structure was a little wobbly. But I chalk this up to the lightweight, soft, wood, and the manner of design which enables the whole thing to be hand delivered to your front door. (Main joists, which are comprised of three pieces bolted together, have a little too much play.) I did a couple of simple structural additions to firm up its integrity. We also added a shade cloth attached to the underside of cross joists. We did not use the top 2x2’s (intended for shade) as most were warped. We liked the idea of the cloth more anyways. All in all, for the cost, look (and easiness of constructing), we are very pleased.

Our pergola, which covers a portion of our patio, has added a beautiful look to the backyard space (of 5 acres), and has won oooh's and awww's from friends and neighbors. Each piece is finely crafted, and the installation was so easy to arrange and have done. The pergola provides a bit of cover from the sun, and enchanting ambiance both in the daytime and at night. We are very glad we made the investment to our outdoor space. It's given us another "room" off the dining/kitchen area. And...it's a great backdrop for parties and get-togethers.

Price is far less than others, but quality is not much less. Very happy with my purchase, using it as a decorative car port in an area too small for anything else. Did need to re-drill 3-4 holes in the top slats, but the rest fit together well. Recommend reading the instructions.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this pergola back in May for my back yard patio. I wanted to spend most of my time this summer relaxing. This pergola did not disappoint!! My 17 year old grandson and his friend and I put it together in 2 days. It was very easy to put together and the memories we created was priceless!! Defiantly worth the money!!

I love the idea of this kit for the DIY’er. It’s like a huge Lincoln Log set. I haven’t ha stud opportunity to actually put it together yet. The transport company ruined a bunch of wood pieces and I’m waiting for the replacements to arrive. This company has excellent customer service and immediately addresses issues with a friendly and understanding representative. They are a model for other businesses. Although I wish my experience was much smoother, you can’t get upset when you are treated so kindly. Awesome!

Overall the pergola is very nice and instructions were clear. Unfortunately the instructions for how long the base is were wrong. All the concrete was laid out exactly to their plan of 114" on center, but when assembled the posts were just over 115" on center. I recommend building all of the long pieces FIRST, then calculate how far apart the posts will be. I am a woodworker and teach engineering. Normally you would cut everything to size as you are building because there can be some changes in wood or other things. So for a pre-made, pre-drilled pergola it's understandable that some holes don't line up, kind of annoying the post distance wasn't correct as they will not be centered on my columns. One thing to add, all of the pieces are short and use a lap joint and bolts to secure them. Cedar is a soft wood, so I glued all of the lap joints and bolted them. Because all of the pieces are bolted together I would not trust standing or putting anything heavy on top. From a learning experience, I recommend building all of the long parts in sections and then sealing them before assembly. Overall it is a fairly good product. The only reason I did not build this from scratch is because the price of lumber to make something similar would have been as much or more than the kit. Had I known all of the long pieces were bolted lap joints and the 6x6 columns are hollow I may have just held out and designed and built my own.

We love the look of our 10x14 pergola and have had several compliments. It's a wonderful addition to the backyard/pool. Our yard is quite small so we were worried that the pergola would make it look smaller but not the case. I would have given 4.5-5 stars but the directions could have been better written. The biggest issue was that several top pieces and a cpl joists were warped. We did the best to straighten them out as we assembled and now that complete, we are probably the only ones to know. In all fairness, I am writing this prior to contacting the company. I will be notifying them and update my review with response. That being said, I have and will continue to recommend to others.

I was impressed with the thoroughness that Backyard Discovery puts in their products. Written instructions and an app, some tools, and extra hardware. We stained the wood before assembly and carefully followed the instructions. It did take three to erect the posts, but the final construction was by myself. I highly recommend Backyard Discovery.

BE AWARE that the 12 x 10 does NOT, I repeat, NOT refer to the size of the footprint as I had expected!!! Somewhat disappointed in the finished size of the product, but we will make it work. The manufacturer needs to make it clear about the actual footprint and finished dimensions in their advertising. I plan to also leave a review of this product on whatever website I find it is being sold. Having said that, the actual construction of this product is relatively simple and straightforward.

At first we thought that the building of this pergola would take forever with all the pieces , but the instructions on the app that’s provided made the process go smoothly. We love the cedar wood and the looks of this pergola. We were happy to have every piece and tool that we needed. The only negative we had was that not all of the holes were clean. We used a screwdriver to clean them and chipped some of the wood around them. Other than that great product. My husband wants a second one.
