We bought this product about 2 months ago because we wanted to add a nice seating area in our backyard. We love it! Backyard Discovery seems to have a lot of good products. We bought a swing set from them last year and they have both been great quality. The instructions are easy to follow and the pergola is pretty simple to put together for the most part. You can do most of it with two people but it would definitely be handy to have a third when you're standing up the sides otherwise they might fall down (speaking from experience). Overall, it's a great product and exactly what the pictures show you. Highly recommend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a great and easy pergola kit. Comes in 4 boxes, easy to assemble, easy to follow directions, plus 3d directions via app on phone. Drill and attached to concrete was easy and straight forward. Majority completed with 1 person. Only need a 2nd person when standing up pergola and placing trusses. Definitely recommend!

The pergola itself is fine. It has some weird gaps in the joinery as you might expect from something manufactured in China. But both the customer support team and the assembly folks were great. Very responsive, very friendly, very quick to resolve issues. I would buy from them again just because the customer service was exceptional

I never leave reviews. And I'm the person that wondered why people say that. I assumed it's either because they may be trying to persuade someone either or way, who may be on the fence about buying a product. They are satisfied or dissatisfied. In this case, I am highly satisfied. The pergola is great. A few minor cracks in one of the 4 main corner posts, due to shipping I am assuming. I didn't call or complain, I didn't notice to I had put it up. It should be okay. I bought 2 months ago. It's been up a month now. Took about 7 hours over two days. I did alone. I had my wife to the corner post once I stood each side up. I attached all the separated parts together first in the garage. Then moved to the outside to set up. Went very smoothly. Great product when it finally arrived.(shippers fault) read assembly instructions at least once before beginning. One person can easily do up to step 3. Personally I would recommend anchoring the unit after step 4. It’s much easier to handle being lighter. Then add the rest of the wood. Directions were superb, good hardware and tools and wrenches supplied. A well engineered product.

Shipping was surprisingly fast. (1 week from purchase to delivery) Assembly was relatively easy. I put it together myself, with a little help from my wife and son when it came to installing the main joist beams. Finished structure was a little wobbly. But I chalk this up to the lightweight, soft, wood, and the manner of design which enables the whole thing to be hand delivered to your front door. (Main joists, which are comprised of three pieces bolted together, have a little too much play.) I did a couple of simple structural additions to firm up its integrity. We also added a shade cloth attached to the underside of cross joists. We did not use the top 2x2’s (intended for shade) as most were warped. We liked the idea of the cloth more anyways. All in all, for the cost, look (and easiness of constructing), we are very pleased.

Delivery turned out to be a bit more of a challenge than anticipated, but the folks at Backyard Discovery handled the issue with professionalism and for that we are endebted. It took us a Saturday to construct the pergola and the kit went together without a hitch. The finished product is pictured below and we LOVE IT! We whole heartidly recommend the pergola and Backyard Discovery!

Just bought 2 of the 16x12 pergolas to sit side by side. The first thing I noticed is the color is completely off from the photos online. One of the reasons I chose this pergola was because the color matched the rest of the wood in my yard. I understand that screens can distort color a bit but this is extreme and MUCH lighter than anticipated. It does state in the description that saturation can vary but I don’t even think it’s a saturation issue as it is maybe only 1 coat of stain added as opposed to more to get the proper color maybe to just get the product out faster? Not sure but make sure you don’t rely on the color if it’s important to you. The other thing is that several of the joists were pretty bowed. It didn’t prevent us from installing but just not super high quality for the price paid. A lot of the pieces are pretty lightweight and posts are hollow. Still not sure how this withstands the high winds that they say but we did attach it to the house and a concrete patio so we’ll see how it lasts to Florida storms. Overall it was relatively easy to put together but I likely would not purchase again. If you are making a decision based on what you see in photos make sure to do more research first.

I bought the pergola/arbor a month ago. Directions were very clear! All boards, bolts, screws, nuts and washer were labeled. Other than sealing the boards, the actual construction was completed in ONE DAY. We are one young man and one 70 yr old short woman. If we can do it, anyone can handle it. It looks fantastic. The grapes have been planted by each post. We just need to string some led lights. ,
