About this item

Product details

Nutrient-dense avocados have a rich, buttery texture and sweet, nutty flavor. Avocados are a versatile and delicious fruit. Slice and dice them for sandwiches, salads and to top your toast, mash them into guacamole and baby food or blend them into your favorite smoothie for an added nutrient boost.

Are Avocados Healthy?

Avocados contain good fats and nearly 20 vitamins and minerals. A 50g serving of avocados contains 5g of monounsaturated fat and 1g of polyunsaturated fat. These “good fats” can help improve the intake of dietary fat without raising LDL or “bad” cholesterol. Additionally, each serving of avocado contains 3g of fiber and no cholesterol, sugar or sodium.

What Is the Best Guacamole Recipe?

If you've never made your own guacamole at home, it may seem intimidating. Have no fear—here's a quick and simple guacamole recipe using avocados that anyone can pull off. For a big batch of guacamole, mash together six avocados, two limes worth of juice, one diced white onion and two tsp. of salt. Then, stir in six tablespoons of chopped up cilantro, four diced plum tomatoes and two teaspoons of finely minced garlic. Finally, stir in a few pinches of cayenne pepper, depending on how much your guests enjoy spice, and refrigerate for an hour before serving.

Handy Avocado Tips

Here are our tips for choosing, prepping and preserving avocados:

• Color is not always an indicator of ripeness. The best way to judge ripeness is to feel for uniform softness.

• Accelerate ripening at home by putting avocados in a paper bag with a banana or apple. Close bag and leave on the counter for 24-48 hours

• Firm or under-ripe avocados are best stored at room temperature until they achieve desired ripeness. Once they are ripe, you can store them in the refrigerator for several days

• Firm-ripe avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure are best for slices and cubes, while ripe avocados that yield easily to gentle pressure are best for mashing and guacamole

• Store cut avocados by applying a thin layer of lemon or lime juice to the cut surface and wrapping tightly with plastic wrap

Best avocados I can find!

Best avocados I can purchase. Almost always good, fresh, solid. Usually requires a few days to ripen on counter, then refrigerate to use for a week or more.

Quality on a natural quality

Watch the prices as they fluctuate. Get yourself a 10 cent paper bag and buy them hard, put them in the bag, wait a couple days, stash them in the fridge, enjoy everything avocado for a couple weeks. Love guacamole, avocado and turkey sandwich, eggs and avocado, endless options. At a good price you won't find a better deal

Better avocados

Lately when I purchased avocados at Walmart or Aldi they've already gotten bad before I could even eat them and I usually eat one a day. The ones that I've been buying from Sam's on a regular basis have been good every single time I may not buy avocados from the other two stores ever again.
