TurboTax makes it easy and super fast!! (Except for refusing to run on Windows 10.  Had to dig into my BIOS to turn on TPM 2.0.)  They even download and process every detail from my broker.  (It would take me at least a week to go through all that manually!)

Overall, I really like TurboTax.  However, I was disappointed in how it handled my 403(b) distribution, which as a pastor, was for nontaxable pastoral housing allowance.  TurboTax did not allow me to add a clarifying statement to my taxes (i.e.- 1040SR, line 5c(3).) regarding why that distribution was not taxable.  Hopefully, the IRS will not contact me asking me for additional information regarding that 403(b) distribution.

Overall, good, but....

Over many years of use, many things have improved.  Electronic downloads of tax documents work well now, and e-filing works much better.   

Each year I seem to run into a bug or two that consumes quite a bit of my time, however.  This year it was an unexpected number in my state tax return.  After spending too much time investigating, I discovered that Turbo-Tax had misinterpreted its download of my 1099-DIV from Charles Schwab.  Schwab reported tax-exempt bond dividends in 3 columns:  the amount paid in 2025, adjustments for 2025 made in 2026, and the adjusted amounts.  TT reported both the pre-adjustment and post-adjustment amounts as if they were separate payments, thus double counting.   It made me wonder how many other errors like that there were that I did not discover. 

TT could also do a much better job of informing users about key limits and thresholds that they should know about to avoid wasting time on useless data entry -- such as medical expense thresholds and AGI limits for various itemized deductions.

Very good at basics.  Uneven for more complex case

I sold my main home but did not receive a 1099S.  I qualified for the exemption on sale of main home according to IRS rules.  Return says that I did not qualify for the exemption but made no difference on my return as I had no gain.  But could not get the program to correctly state that I qualified for the exemption.  This seems like a problem to me.

Concerns

The section on Roth conversions was way too confusing, especially having to go back years to see when Roth conversions were done and for calculating the basis. The questions were very generic and no definitions provided on Traditional vs Rollover and when to include which accounts.

Good but with Kinks

Thanks to AI tools like gemini, chatgpt, claude, I was able to get through using turbo tax much faster than previous years where I had to scroll through dozens of community forum answers to figure out things.  1. If your smart check found an error  - why not have the UI take you to the section where the problem was found? How helpful is it to just ask Enter State for 2619: ____ ? Also Why do you have to make Backdoor Roth conversion SO INSANELY CONFUSING?

Makes you a tax expert!

I find this app to be overly cumbersome to use. For example, as I work through the various sections why on earth do I have to scroll all the way down, every time, to the next topic. When I complete one topic return me to the next one!  
I file MN.  That is the very worst set up you've got going.  Trying to verify that you've got everything and gotten it correct requires patience, experience in taxes, knowledge of what is or isn't necessary.used i
Every year I say no more but because I used it the previous year[s] I don't want to lose what is populated and the year-over-year comparison.

Cumbersome

I have been using Turbotax for decades, and it is hard not to feel the quality has diminished over the years. The biggest disappointment for me is in the state returns. I buy Turbotax Premier because I have rental properties in multiple states, and I no longer have confidence that Turbotax is handling this complexity properly. In fact, I find myself doing all the allocation work offline, which is just not why I buy this software.

TurboTax, please invest in the state returns!

First it only runs on Windows 11 which is an expensive upgrade.    So you run win11 or mac OR you use the Web version.  Its not very reassuring for all of your data to be on intuit servers.  Every time you run TT it requires an update.  The updates are SLOW taking hours sometimes.  Cant you make a modular program with shared objects so updates are not to huge and slow. Its also undercut on price by several competitors.

I've used Turbo Tax for decades. This year I bought the premium package so I could import cryptocurrency information.  Tubro Tax advertised that you could import CSV files directly into their software for ease of reporting and processing crypto gains/losses, however, they never got that portion of the software working.  Many people are very upset about this.  Your product does not work as advertised.
