Placed order on Sam's online , process was quick and easy. Placed order and I received the verification code email within less than an hour. Download from Turbo tax went without any issues. I tested the downloading of 2024 data into the 2025 software, again no issues at all. Just make sure you have Windows 11 installed  as it is not backward comparable. Also for us long time buyers there are no more disc, you must upload all Turbo tax software

Usually pretty good -- had to file an amended and that wasn't easy and turbotax gave some conflicting answers.  Adobe complained the PDF generated had errors.  Was told I had to file fed by paper, then it offered to e-file.  Offered to efile state, then couldn't becase had not efiled fed.

1) Please add the ability to apply part of a NY State Tax Refund to the following year's estimated tax.
2) I find the summary of the Fed and State estimated tax amounts on the Summary page for Deductions and Credits very confusing. It is not obvious where the summary $ numbers are coming from. 
3) And why don't you let the user enter Extension payment amounts on the same page as Estimated tax payments instead of on a different page?? They are all tax payments.

Suggestions

I was looking for my mother-in-law's return and finally opened TurboTax to try to reconcile the lack of a return and discovered that nothing had been transmitted inspire of receiving notification that this return had been received. I always work on my tax return after doing my mother-in law's return because we are financially connected and share a residence. At no time did I or my family receive any notice of an irregularity on any form. We are all retirees from the Federal Government and thus do not pay any NY State taxes on our pensions. Why is this not covered within your software? I made two entries for $0.00 dollars and this return was completed and transmitted. This appears to be a serious oversight and I would like some sort of a response. My mother-in-law is due a federal income tax return of over $4700 and has been patiently waiting for some sort of a response.

TurboTax is Awesome, But!!!

There are too many little glitches througout the system--fortunately, not in critical areas,  
For example--
I recently struggled through the 1040-ES for 2nd qtr. payment.  I remembered that in the final stages of filing my 2025 (TT Winfows desktop) there was an option about preparing estimates for the new year.  Although I suspected it was just to print out the forms and instructions, I launch TT and tried to find it.  I launched the help pop-up (a small box), enterered '1040-ES' in the search field, and selected the appropriate item from the list.  When the results appreared wtithout any word-wrap, I tried to enlarge the frame but found it did not provide for that.  It seems that either this function was not checked by quality assurance or the correction was not a high enough priority.

Second, I would ask you to consider adding the ability to calculate quarterly estimate amounts--either within the main TT or as a separate program.  There are several sites that provide such tools:  IRS.GOV and CALCULATOR.NET show two different approaches.  However, they all have no provision to save your data for when you need to calculate the next qurater's payment.  Doing this with TT would not only allow a 'Save' option, but could also allow for using the data from the prior year as a starting point.

If you have never had to do it, I challenge you to go throught the 1040_ES withing 6 hours, and to get the full effect, you might assume an AGI of $75,000 (for income already taxed), then add $7,000 for dividends, $5,000 in capital gains, and $2,000 for collectibles (as if you sold the jewelry you inheited from your distant aunt, or you sold your comic book collection), and allowing for the time you would have to gather those numbers.

1. It's a black box. There is no explanation of how the figures I enter will impact my overall taxes, which would be helpful for planning.  2. I can no longer keep charitable organizations sorted alphabetically. Since I carry over about 30 - 35 each year, the random order is a pain in the neck!  3. For certain deductions, there are income caps or other limitations, but Turbo Tax doesn't tell you that until you've spent an hour or two digging up all your records and entering them, only to find out that you weren't eligible in the first place. The whole program could use WAY more user experience testing.

My current PC is fairly beefed up with a large SSD drive, extra RAM, performance video card, etc.  It fully meets my needs.  But, even though it is only 7 years old, the hardware doesn't meet Microsoft's requirements for a Windows 11 upgrade.  Microsoft has committed to continuing Windows 10 security updates for several more years so this shouldn't be a significant concern.

So now I have a decision to make -- spend $2,500  for a comparable new PC or switch to another tax software vendor.  I'm switching to somebody new -- probably H%26R Block.  I can't fathom why Intuit would just blow off the millions of it's users who are in the same position as I am.  I've been using TurboTax continuously since the early days when it came on floppy discs but they have but me a position with no good options to continue.

BEWARE *** This won't run on Windows 10 ***

I see other reviews were warning that Intuit made significant changes to the software this year, but I dismissed them as I've been using TurboTax for the PC for the last 20 years or so and never had a problem.  I was wrong.  I imported last years return into my new 2025 TurboTax Premier software and began going through the painstaking process of gathering all of my income details to see if I needed to make extra estimated tax payments on the 15th.  I clicked the 'Done with Income' button at the bottom of the screen and TT froze, then eventually threw an error.  I was a little dumbfounded, as I've never had any significant problems with the software before.  I was able to bypass the error by clicking on the  "Deductions and Credits" tab at the top, so I proceeded to enter all of my deductions and credits and ran into the exact same error when I clicked the "Done with Deductions" button at the bottom.  I tried troubleshooting it a few different ways, but wasn't able to fix the problem.  I created a brand new tax return without any income entered into it and was able to successfully click the "Done with Income" button, so I figured there must be a problem with the data that I had entered.  I had already spent 2 or 3 hours entering the data and really didn't want to start all over, so I ended up calling the Intuit support line  the next day.  The support person confirmed that my OS met the minimum requirements, then she started running me through her own troubleshooting steps which immediately involved uninstalling and reinstalling programs.  I agreed to uninstall and reinstall TurboTax but balked when she asked me to do so for Visual C   as it seemed she was just fishing at this point in time and I didn't want to mess up any other programs that were using it.  I explained that  I didn't get the error when I started a new return without entering in my income items, so I was pretty sure it was something with my data that was breaking it.  I asked if they could access the error reports that I kept sending to Intuit everytime I encountered the error (hoping they would call out out the data element that was causing the problem so I could delete it), but she said that went to another group.  I asked if she could get the reports from that group and she said she'd try.  She put me on hold then after about another 10 or 15 minutes, the call disconnected and I received an email saying that my case had been closed.  I already have a lot of time invested, so I guess I'll start all over with a new return and see if my data breaks the program again.  If so, I'll try to get a refund from Sam's and give H%26R Block software a try.

Bugs in their software this year

What a MESS the 2025 Tax Year Premier Desktop software has created. Main problems - Standard Deduction NOT applied, Says my name is Missing, Asking for 1099 (all dowloaded from financial institutions) data like name, address, SS#, has me in AMT when that has NEVER happened before............I've used TT for many years but this is definitely the LAST - It is wasting my time NOT saving it and the Cost is insane for bad software
