Our Story: A Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

The Good Charcoal Company was founded in 2020 by two friends passionate about creating a product that benefits the environment, wildlife, producers, and consumers. They envisioned a healthier, affordable product that also supports Americans experiencing food insecurity. The result is the best chemical-free hardwood lump charcoal in the US, coupled with a commitment to sustainable practices and community support.

Sustainably Sourced for a Better World

We take pride in being the first FSC-approved charcoal in the US, sourced responsibly from the Namibian bush in Africa. Our process helps restore native grasslands and support local farmers by managing the overgrowth of acacia trees. Our partnership with the Forest Stewardship Council ensures that our production methods are environmentally sustainable.

100% Chemical-Free for a Healthier BBQ Experience

Our lump charcoal is made from premium Acacia hardwood and is completely free of harmful chemicals. With no additives or fillers, you can enjoy a healthier BBQ experience with pure, natural charcoal. The density of Acacia wood makes our charcoal burn hotter and longer than oak or hickory, saving you money and providing the perfect grilling temperature.

Community Impact: More Than Just Charcoal

Every bag of The Good Charcoal you purchase helps feed Americans in need. We partner with local communities across the US to sponsor free BBQs for those experiencing food insecurity. Your purchase not only elevates your grilling but also supports a greater cause.

The Good Charcoal lights fast, burns clean

There’s charcoal… and then there’s what The Good Charcoal Company is doing. This isn’t just fuel—it’s the quiet co-pilot behind some of my best cooks. From the first spark, you can tell it’s different. It lights fast, burns clean, and doesn’t throw off that harsh, chemical funk that ruins flavor before you even get rolling. What you get instead is pure, honest heat—the kind that lets your wood, your seasoning, and your technique actually shine. The lump size? Solid. Not a bag of gravel dust like some others. I’m talking real chunks that give you control—whether I’m running a screaming hot sear for a tomahawk straight on the coals or settling into a steady burn for a longer cook. It holds temp like a champ and responds when you adjust airflow, which is everything in live fire cooking. Flavor-wise, it stays in its lane—in the best way possible. It doesn’t overpower. It supports. That means when I layer in Tennessee cooking wood or finish with a glaze, I’m tasting what I built… not fighting the charcoal. And here’s something that matters to me: it’s made from reclaimed wood. So while I’m out here cooking over fire, I’m not burning through forests to do it. That’s a win. Bottom line—this is the kind of charcoal that lets you cook with confidence. No guesswork. No weird burns. Just consistent, clean heat that shows up every time. If you’re serious about live fire, this isn’t optional gear… it’s foundational.

Great Charcoal

Gets ready quick and also long lasting. The bag is always semi-torn, so you get dirty, but it’s charcoal… just treat it as such 😂

Not good enough

This charcoal supposed to be better than the regular ones, but after opening the bag, the charcoal is so small that u need to use a lot (maybe more) than a regular charcoal bag. The bag is very big, but it's not going to last more than 3 bbq dinners 🙄

reply from The Good Charcoal Team

Hey Gonzalez, We understand your frustration. These bags should absolutely last far more than three cooks. Our charcoal is made from ultra dense Acacia hardwood, which burns hotter and longer than most, so you typically means using less per cook. If you received a bag with unusually small pieces, it may have been damaged/crushed during shipping, and we’d love to help make it right. Feel free to reach out to us at Hello@TheGoodCharcoal.com and we’ll make it right and answer any questions you might have. All the best, The Good Charcoal Team
