High Performance Winter/Snow Tire
The MICHELIN PILOT Alpin 5 SUV  Performance Winter/Snow tires combine responsive handling with the ability to grip through snow and ice. Their rubber compounds remain flexible in cold temperatures while their tread designs bite through snow and ice, as well as maintain excellent levels of wet and dry road traction in severe cold weather conditions.

Resistance to Hydroplaning
A winter-focused compound molded into a highly siped, directional tread pattern features broad shoulder blocks and a wide, central groove to blend stability and cornering grip on dry roads with hydroplaning resistance and traction in slush, snow and on ice.

Increased Fuel Economy Due to Reduced Rolling Resistance
A specialized undertread minimizes energy dissipation to reduce rolling resistance and aid fuel economy, while the two-ply, reinforced polyester casing improves sidewall robustness for added durability.

Snow Platform Indicators Provide Added Safety
Snow platform indicators (the equivalent of "snow wear bars") are molded into the Pilot Alpin 5 SUV tread grooves to inform the driver when deep snow traction will be reduced as the tire's tread reaches the point where the remaining tread depth becomes less effective in deep snow.

Pilot Alpin 5 Winter Tires - Porsche-specific/staggered sizes

A fine all-rounder that balances excellent winter traction & stopping performance with decent handling on wet & dry roads. They maintain great ride quality and so far seem to be wearing very well. Vehicle was ordered with 21” wheels/summer tires but opted to go down a size to 20” on winter wheels. These tires are Porsche Cayenne-specific tires and come with my highest recommendation!

Perfect 👌

I've been using Michelin Pilot® Alpin® 5 tires during the winter season, and I can confidently say they deliver outstanding performance in cold and challenging conditions. From the first drive, I noticed how stable and controlled my car felt, especially on wet and slippery roads. One of the biggest advantages of these tires is their excellent traction in winter weather. Whether driving on wet pavement, slushy roads, or light snow, the grip is impressive. The car feels secure and responsive, which gives me a lot of confidence behind the wheel, even during sudden braking or sharp turns. On rainy days, water is cleared efficiently, significantly reducing hydroplaning. I was also pleasantly surprised by how quiet and smooth the ride is. Even at highway speeds, road noise is minimal, making long drives more comfortable. The handling remains precise and predictable, which is exactly what I expect from a premium tire brand like Michelin. Another important factor for me is durability, and Pilot Alpin 5 does not disappoint. The tires feel solid and well-built, maintaining consistent performance over time without noticeable wear. Michelin's attention to detail and advanced winter tire technology really shows in everyday driving. Overall, Michelin Pilot® Alpin® 5 is an excellent choice for anyone looking for reliable, high-quality winter tires. They combine safety, comfort, and performance perfectly. If you want peace of mind during winter driving and value top-tier engineering, I would absolutely recommend these tires. I'm extremely satisfied with my experience and would choose them again without hesitation.

Highway Star!!!

I've driven 10,000+ kms during the winter of 2019/2020, 90% of my driving is on the QEW/400-series highways in Ontario. Mercedes recommends 17" wheels for the GLK, but having 20" OE wheels with AMG package I opt'd to go with 19" wheels to maintain handling, and I never regretted it. The tires are quiet, comfortable, corner and turn-in well, and soak up the potholes. Although I've never had the opportunity to try it in deep snow conditions, traction in dry and wet/snow is excellent, and able to handle turbo-diesel torque in high boost conditions, allowing seamless thrust with the 4Matic all-wheel drive system regardless of weather. I've also noticed the benefit of quick recovery time when the tire hydroplanes in wet snow/slush/rain. The only downside would be a bit of tread squirm under hard/panic braking, but it's to be expected with the narrow tread blocks (Alpin A4 winter tires did the same; similar tread design); on a SUV it would be more noticeable than on a car due to more weight transfer. If you're a hard braker, then the Pilot Alpin PA4 might be the better choice. For most people, this tire is an excellent choice for urban areas. Previously, I've purchased Pilot Alpin PA2/PA3/PA4's, X-Ice3 and Alpin A4's, and await installation of the X-Ice Snow on another vehicle---I've always been happy with the performance of the Michelin family of winter tires; my number one choice if available in my tire size. Highly recommended!
