HATE the new formulation, please bring the old one back!! I have used the old color assure in the silver bottle forever and last time I ran out couldn't seem to find the product I was used to on the shelf. The only one left in the same packaging as usual was a 1L size (along with the noticeably new sulfate free version). I bought the 1L of the old packaging it but quickly wondered if there had been some mixup at the factory and whether I had somehow bought conditioner packaged in a shampoo bottle. The color was different, and there was no lather whatsoever. I added what little of my old bottle I had left on top, and then rinsed and rinsed and still ended up with some crusty spots on the underside of my hair where apparently I didn't get it all. Then it dawned on me that this must be the sulfate free version in the old bottle.
I am not new to sulfate free shampoos and realize that they do not lather like normal shampoo, but this was so much worse than ANY sulfate-free I have used in the past. It is an adjustment to get used to not having lather, but at least the ones I have used in the past left my hair feeling somewhat clean at the same time, unlike this one.
I don't know what I was thinking but I went out and bought yet another bottle of the only kind that now seemed to be on the shelves (sulfate-free) STILL thinking there may have been some mixup in the one before. To use the word "disappointment" would be a huge understatement. At first I thought maybe this one would work better, as it did seem to lather a BIT more than the conditioner masquerading as shampoo that I had bought before, but then I rinsed, and rinsed, AND RINSED trying to get it all out. I thought I'd gotten it all, but this stuff left my hair feeling (and LOOKING) so filmy and GREASY that I couldn't even leave the house without washing it again in something normal; I looked like I hadn't washed my hair in a week.
I absolutely LOVED this shampoo before it was changed, it left my hair clean, silky, and moisturized without being weighed down, AND did well at the color-protection that the formula was meant for. But I won't be sticking with the new one. I get that sulfate-free is supposed to be gentler on color and help with fading, but the old one did a great job at keeping my color bright and fresh without this aspect, which I was really pleased about since I don't care for sulfate-free shampoos in the first place. Why try to fix something that isn't broken?
I have left very few product reviews in my life, but have written a book here. That is how disappointed I was in trying the new color assure and how much I wish you would bring the old one back. It was my absolute favorite shampoo, but if the new formulation is going to be my only choice in a color-care Nexxus product moving forward, then sadly I will no longer be a Nexxus customer and will have to search elsewhere for a new favorite. Judging from the tons of other recent reviews saying the same thing, it seems I am not the only one.
