(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I would give this 2.5 stars if I could, so I'm rounding up to 3. For me, this product didn't really impress.
First of all, the product did have some merits. I liked the packaging and the purple colour of the razor. The moisturizing strips are a nice touch, but I found that it was almost redundant with the accompanying violet Swirl with Olay shaving cream. I felt like my skin was already getting a great moisture hit from that, so the benefits from the strips on the razor were negligible for me.
Things I didn't like:
The head doesn't pivot nearly as much as you would think. The "ball" thing didn't really do much for me at all. I didn't find that the razor really moved that well over my skin, and I doubt how much this thing actually pivots which shaving. It seemed a bit gimmicky to me actually.
Though the in box appearance is aesthetically pleasing, the plastic construction feels cheap and disposable in hand. I know it's a semi-disposable type of product, but I would have preferred a weightier handle (like the old generation Mach3 razor I currently use). I typically avoid women's razors altogether because I feel like the products just miss their mark in terms of performance. I find I get a better shave from my Mach3 than from this 5 blade system and for me, that's kind of a head scratcher. I think it comes down to the size of the razor head. I cannot emphasize enough how much I dislike large razor heads. Put all the blades you want on there, but if I can't really see what I'm doing then I'm not getting the greatest shave. I found I would miss spots with the Venus Swirl and need to go back over again, often times nicking my skin in the process. Speaking to that, I appreciate the moisturizing strips around the blades, but I think the trade off is losing control for a tighter shave and for me, that isn't a great trade. I usually moisturize after my shower anyways, so the strips do not add much benefit for me.
During use, I found myself needing to push on the head of the razor with my finger to guide it around my skin. It felt too clunky to use otherwise and I did end up nicking myself a few times on areas where I would not have nicked using my other razor (the men's Mach3 razor).
Overall, I would not buy this product or recommend it. As I have said previously, I have never had much success with razors marketed towards women. I have tried several in the past, but always keep coming back to Mach3. I prefer a razor with a weightier handle and smaller razor head. I also would have liked to see some sort of in-shower storage system for the razor. I think I used one in the past with a CommandStrip type tape on the back of a plastic clip you could clip the razor into when not in use.
