We are glad to read that you love the unit, but we can definitely understand how frustrating it would be to have to unplug the unit every once in awhile. This is not something we would expect you to have to do, and we sincerely apologize for this hassle. If the sound that you are hearing is more of a "squeak" which impacts performance, this indicates the defrost cycle is beginning as ice builds up around the components. More frequent squeaking usually means that the cycle is having some trouble running due to mineral buildup in the system. This is easily remedied by running a cleaning cycle with white vinegar.
